Paul says that women should not teach men. She must remain in silence to learn from men but not teach them.

Lets see what Islam says about women being able to teach men...
Saheeh Bukhari
Volume 6, Book 61, Number 545:
Narrated 'Uthman:
The Prophet said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."
This hadith is general and goes to all Muslims (male or female). It has no restrictions on women being able to teach men. As a matter of fact one of the Prophet wives used to teach men...

It was just how society was back then. It wasn't just a Christian principle. This is not what I would consider an "inspired" part of the Bible, because who follows *that* today?

In the churches he was writing to, the women were recently converted, and still kept many of their old habits, including talking out of turn and causing a ruckus during worship services. They pretty much did whatever they felt like. So for the sake of order, Paul wrote this admonition, so they might actually learn something instead of running their mouths.
This is not to say that women aren't wonderful teachers. But they should not use their teaching ability to steal the spotlight, or to bully their husbands into submission. Nowadays, some churches still follow this guideline, because their are some cultures who wouldn't listen to a woman teacher anyway (i.e., middle eastern countries).

The application of Paul's inspired command should be understood in the light of the context. When Paul wrote, the meetings of the congregation at Corinth lacked order.More than one person would be prophesying or speaking in a tongue.(1Cor.14:22-32).Evidently some women there would raise challenging questions and dispute with men appointed to teach the congregaton. Thus these women were assuming the position of teachers and ignoring the position of headship assisgned to the man.- 1Cor,11.3.
But this does not mean that a woman can never speak in a meeting of the congregation.Back there, the women as well as the men received the gifts of the spirit, including those of speaking in tongues and prophesying, and these would require them to speak in the congregation..So in what sense were they to "keep silent in the congregations"?Evidently in those cases where to speak would be to show a lack of subjection. So a sister would not be found debating with brothers or publicly criticizing them, either at a meeting or to other members of the congregation at other times, nor would she exercise authority over the brothers as a teacher or instuctor. If a woman did have a question about what a male member said in the congregation, she could take it up with her husband at home- 1Cor14:45.
This is part of a loving arrangement Jehovah God has put in place.Husbands are head of the family and as such are expected to care for and respect their wives and likewise children are to respect and listen to their parents.

Women are not meant to be the head, since we're more likely to be deceived, (eve was deceived in the garden, Adam new full well what he was doing, but did it anyway).
A woman can be called of God to give a message, but she's under the authority of a man. Its not that women arent meant to do the work of God, but theyre not meant to take off on their own without either a pastor or a husband, over them.
Theres just good ways of doing things. Just like its good for a man to be married, because he's not complete and functional until then.

Kalid,
It doesn't say women can't teach at all. They can certainly teach other women. As someone else points out they can certainly witness the the Word of God. In this situation women were "usurp authority" from those who were in leadership and Paul was trying to provide guidance of the situation.
The bigger question is this? How do you get into heaven? Muslims believe you have to be a good person. Do you consider yourself to be a good person? Let see...
Have you ever told a lie?
Have you ever stolen?
Have you ever used God's name in vain?
Have you ever looked with lust? Jesus says this is committing adultery of the heart.
Have you hated or said something nasty about your brother? Jesus says this is murder of the heart.
Have you always honored your mother and father?
Have you always put God first?
Have you always honored the Sabbath day by keeping it holy?
Have you worship something other than God? Have you made a God to suit yourself?
Have you ever coveted someone else belogings?
If you are like ever one else, you have transgressed all of these. The Bible says it is appointed for man to die once and then the judgment and the Bible says without holiness no one shall see God! The Bible also says no one is righteous, no not one. Since we've broken these, ans probably a few of them multiple times, we are in trouble of being dambed to hell!!
Maybe you say God is good and will forgiveme of the day of judgment or maybe if I do enough good God will look past my sins. But the reality is if a judge forgives someone for committing a crime with out punishment he is a corrupt judge. Could you imagine a judge letting someon go for murder or rap because he said he was sorry? No that would be insane. The Bible says God see our righteousness (good works) as filthy rags! how do you think he sees our sins!! God is holy and just and therefore must punish people for there sin.
God has given us a way to restore out right standing with Him. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross so that whoever repents (turns from sin) and puts there trust in him will have eternal life and be spared from the wrath that we rightfully deserve. God said we must be born again and when we do he will give us a new mind with new desires.
I pray that you will think about these things. God Bless, Justin

OMG - sorry but I just cannot believe what my own eyes just read! Glo's answer - .......................... I am speechless! What a load of old codswallop! Men are over women???? Only when having sex in the missionary position girlfriend!!
Get yourself some self respect and be a strong, independent woman. Don't live in 'false consciousness' - this idea of men being higher beings than women was only started by men and bred into society and culture for so long and so persistantly, that women actually started to believe it. WAKE UP, men are no better than women and women are no better than men!

If GOD created man and woman equally, then women can teach men.
If GOD created man over woman, then GOD does not have TRUE LOVE for his own chidren.
GOD does not reflect TRUE LOVE, he is no longer GOD! Whoever, on this GOD' s behalf shall take a rebirth in HELL, all the door of Heavens shut down to this person.
The phrase in Timothy 2:12 only prevented the "bad women". Bad women are those who do not undersrtand GOD.

"i do not let woman teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly."....that is what 1 Timothy 2:12 says..also, the bible can not be taken out of context...this is not saying that women can not teach, but rather that they should not try to seem superior towards men, from whom they were created

That's not what it mean. What it's talking about is the man is the head.If it's a group of people the man takes the lead.Women can preach and teach so can children, but God is over Jesus, Jesus is over men ,Men is over women.
