For example, is there a dance academy for high school students where they go there to live & learn dance?

All of the residential dance schools that I know of place at least an equal emphasis on ballet, if they offer modern, or put most of their emphasis on ballet. However I know that Interlochen Arts Academy and Virginia School of the Arts have a strong modern component to their programs.

I just don't know enough about the other residential programs to speak about them, but feel free to check them out as well: Harid Conservatory, Idyllwild Arts Academy, North Carolina Schol of the Arts, Hartt School, and Walnut Hill. As far as I know, the School of American Ballet and Kirov Academy of Ballet (two other dance boarding schools) strictly teach ballet.

Much more information on all of the prestigious pre-professional dance schools can be found at the Ballet Talk for Dancers site:

They have an entire forum devoted to "Pre-professional schools/ Residence Programs." Note, however, that the message board views ballet as it's central mission, so if you check it out, start by carefully reading as much as possible before plunging in with a question about modern dance.
