depends on how long he's been out of surgery. If it's only been a few days then just the anesthesia alone can make people hallucinate. Sometimes certain types of pain medications can cuase this as well...Morphine, Percocet, Darvocet. I've even seen people hallucinate after taking sleep aids like Ambien. It really could be a lot of things.

There are many medications that can make old people hallucinate especially after surgery, plus the nesthesia that was given to them during surgery. Usually narcotics pain medicine does this as well as other sedations. Even ambien can give this reaction to old people.

Painkillers like morphine might cause hallucinations. A lack of oxygen will cause them also. So will some dementia. Whether you are asking for someone else or yourself, it's a good idea to talk to the physician who did the surgery about it.

Anaesthesia can affect the older brain badly.
If the person has already shown signs of dimentia then the drs. should have been told before the surgery.
It can accelerate the degeneration of nerve ends and brain cells resulting in dimentia or alzheimmers or both, if informed in time, the surgeon would use a milder type of anaesthesia.
Hopefully it is only a reaction, but report to your MD. immediately

Vicodin did it for my Dad. He said he saw spiders the size of dinner plates crawling down the walls. Different stuff does different things to different people.
