Generally you just use wood. Gas is too fast, and charcoal is such a biatch to get warmed up. You know, you don't want the dammed thing to take for freaking ever.

Whichever is less clean-burning. That way, you can burn someone at the stake and simultaneously do a little more damage to the environment. Two birds with one stone,no?

I find Poisonous gas a more effective method for use en masse.
