Jim we have to go beyond all the choices given by you. We have crossed animals and evolution has brought us to human stage. The physical evolutions seems to have been stopped but mental evolution is still on.

We still have deep scars in our mind, which we brought from animal kingdom. Human are still animals in mind and they are disciplined due to laws.

The basic instinct of controlling others, marking the territory, keeping others out of boundary are still the animal instincts in us.... when these instincts works through advanced human brain ...we tend to enslave people, we tend to hate people, we tend to control people....

human mind thus uses, religions, nationalities, ideology, color of skin to control others, or to hate others

In my view, when our mind crosses this transitional stage of half savage-half civilised man...these problems will go

Then religions will be replaced by spirituality, hatered by harmony.

when this will happen ? that z another question

The reason we do not live in peace and harmony is that man has fallen short of the Glory of God due to the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. We are all born of a selfish and self-centered nature that is only brought under control when Jesus Christ is invited into our lives as Lord and Savior. At that point, through prayer and study of the Bible and continuing submission to Christ's will, rather than our own, we become less and less selfish.

Man's rejection of God is the ultimate obstacle to peace and harmony on Earth.

My hope lies in Heaven and I know that there will be peace and harmony there because God will be the focus of all.

J) add your own.... The "A) to I)" do not adequately respect the freedom of other humans , and their "expectation" of a certain kind of "adherence" to their prescriptions causes the obstacle. Again it the people, not the religions that cause obstacles. Many people who follow religions are quite peaceful and harmonious. So, a category under "J) " could be "people who do not respect right to co-existence of other humans" .... should cover such people found in all the categories under "A) to I) also.

HUMAN BEINGS! Left to their own devices they would have killed off this planet at least by the cold-war era.

Strip away religion - man would still be murdering man only in the name of greed and power. The root of all evil comes down to Moolah, green backs, the Benjamins, the dead Presidents.

Christianity in itself has not launched wars - but those who saw opportunity to abuse it and gain power over others (Roman Catholic Church) did just that. The more converts the more wealth they would amass (same mentality as TV Preachers). The RCC then went on a mission of force ignoring the teachings of Christ, in the name of Christ.

Jesus Christ - interesting answer coming from a True Christian believer? But he said himself, he came not to bring peace but division because what he brought was the only way by which men could enter into the Kingdom of Heaven and spend eternity in the presence of God or eternity in hell, separated from God. Jesus Christ is not a religion - he is a personal relationship.

J) Lack of Humility and self-questioning
-Too many people refuse to accept that their ideas are anything but perfect. this goes for A through I. People need to realize that what works for them today, may not work for the rest of the world. If we're going to move towards agreeing on something--like the benefits of democracy or the sanctity of religion--we need to merge our beliefs so that those dominant and most benevolent reign supreme

Religion.
No other force in history has held people back with more stubborn ignorance, than religion.
It belongs on the ash-heap of history.
