I dont think they can. I think that allergy shots only prevent your allergy to organic materials like food and insect bites or dust. I took allergy shots for several years and they cured most of my allergies like dairy products, dust, corn, grass, etc. (I was allergic to a lot of stuff). But I still have a reaction to Tylenol Motrin. I hope that answered your question.

short answer. No.

Allergy shots contain a small amount of the stuff, allergens, that you are allergic to. By injecting that allergen into you, your body develops an immune response against it. That immune response block the allergies from occuring. So the key here is your allergy shots protects you against one type of allergen like ragweed.

If you are allergic to medication like for instance penicillin, there is process by which if you truely need penicillin they can desensitize you. It is not unlike the allergy shot in that to desensitize you, penicillin is slow, minutely given to you and the dose gradually increased until you are desensitized.

Theoretically, allergy shots for penicillin is possible but I don't know for sure. But allergy shots are a pain in the rear and they do require a time commitment. If you are allergic to a medication, there probably is an alternative medication that you can take. The time comittment for allergy shots probably preclude it use for specific medication.

Also remember to differentiate side effects from true allergies.

Well I would say most likely yes, they have specific allergy shots, depending on your reactions to specific medications. They would probably check to see if you could take benedryl first and try that.. Because if you have allergic reaction to a medicine in a hospital they would have to have something to follow up your reaction with.. Short answer I would say yes.. But always let your Dr's or hospital know about your allergy's.. make it a great day!
