When Uthman was selecting an "official" Moshaf, he burned several versions of the Koram. Why did 'Uthman feel the need to destroy other copies of the Koran, unless they contained variants?

Take a look at "http://debate.org.uk/topics/books/origins-koran.html"

Especially "'Uthman was caliph from 644-656. He was asked for an official codex by one of his generals because the troops were fighting over which reading of the Koran was correct". So it seems that a human got to choose which version of the Koran was correct!

Ok, if you do not believe that site, try this

The Qur'an was an oral text throughout the lifetime of Muhammad; it was also a fluid text. The complete text resided only in the memories of Muahmmad and his followers. As he added verses and reorganized the text, his followers would rememorize the text in the light of the additions or edits. This means that the Qur'an was a living text during the lifetime of Muhammad. Certain verses revealed to Muhammad were later repudiated by him as "satanic" verses revealed not by Gabriel but by Satan. These verses were expunged from the text that so many had memorized.

After the death of Muhammad, the text of the Qur'an was written down in the caliphate of Abu Bakr. Until 'Uthman, one and only one written text existed. For over a decade after the death of Muhammad, the Qur'an remained primarily an oral text in the memories of the faithful.

So the Koran was written several years after the death of Mohammed?

I have read what you are talking about, and it makes me think. The problem is that many Muslims AUTOMATICALLY deny any allegations that the Quran has been altered, even without knowing anything about the problem!

It is an article of Faith with us Muslims that Kuran which is the word of god conveyed through his last messenger is in its original form. If we believe the story of Moshaf it only shows that perhaps a number of unauthorised versions of Kuran(obviously all handwritten) must have gone about evenduring Mohammad's own time and certainly after his departure. It does not necessarily mean that these editions were incorrect or motivated. It is quite possible that during the corse of copying some discrepancies might have set in. Here in India the Dnaneshwari a commentary onthe Geeta compiled by Saint Dynaneshwar(from whom it derived the name) in the 12th century had by the fifteenth century been so vitiated (as it has come down by word of mouth only) that it did not make any sense at all. It was given to Saint Eknath(who happened to be great-grandson of Dnaneshwar) to bring out a revised version as faithfuly to the original as possible. The same must have happened in the c ase of Kuran also. Had all these edition remained in circulation as time passed there would have been claims and counterclaims about one's own edition being the authetic one and there would have been dissensions among the followers of Islam.By consigning the unauthorised editions to flames Moshaf saved Islam from this confusion. So it is not as it were that there were many different versions of Kuran containing conflicting assertions but only incorrect rendering and their burning does not necessarily signify that the dominant branch of Muslim prevailed over all others and promulgated their own edition as the authentic work of god.

Uthman did not burn other versions of Quran.
Those were the notes that were collected together to compile the whole Quran in one book and in order.

Now about those ask people to go back to history and find out about Islam. PBS has already 2 documentaries and and here is a link to one (please see in order)

The link to debate.org.uk is a theory not the fact, just like a Jewish scholar whole a book in 70's about Jesus saying that actually some Roman soldier rapped Mary hence Jesus was born.

There scholars and scientists in this documentary are non-Muslim.

The path of time is a current of constant change. As the planets move through different ages every few hundred years or so (currently we are in the age of pisces, thus the sign of the fish christians) we enter a new zodiac age like pisces or aries and it is reflected in the alterations of cultures from religion, architecture, fashion and way of life. Of course every bit of religious material you read has been altered over the course of centuries, especially with changing language so people's new train of thought and ideas can understand. Life is the cycle of constant death and rebirth. Old ideas are torn down so new ideas are sown.

considering the fact that i did no longer vote for the guy, i'm extremely getting fed up in protecting him from each and all of the absurd rates via conspiracy theorists and the blatantly uninformed. I extremely have seen the coverage of the inaugural oath countless circumstances. that's obvious that it replaced into the conservative chief Justice who flubbed the oath, no longer President Obama. that's ridiculous to think of that it replaced into the Koran that replaced into used as a replace of the "Lincoln Bible" for the easy actuality that chief Justice John Roberts, whose nomination Senator Obama unfavourable, could be unlikely to permit it, or proceed to be quiet approximately it, do no longer you think of? added, this extremely isn't the 1st time this style of element has got here approximately. quit quibbling over a Constitutional technicality that has been wisely remedied to the satisfaction of an exceedingly terrific courtroom this is led via a Bush nominee.

it is worse than that. look at the character of the creep who started the koran. People will read this ans say- 'how cruel', but folks you all need to study history. Islam is not good. Everyone is so willing to blame the Catholic church for all its criminal activities, and rightly so- but Islam has from the very beginning always been murderous cult. READ HISTORY.
