i always consider supper as dinner time. i'm from the philippines. i got confused when i came to US and they called lunch "dinner". it took me a while to answer when they ask "what's your dinner", i thought they meant what i'll prepare for supper, they actually meant what's my lunch.... very confusing... lol

I am from the deep South, Alabama.
Down here we say breakfast, dinner and supper.
Breakfast is between 6:00 and 8:00am
Dinner is between 12:00 and 1:00pm
Supper is between 6:00 and 7:00pm
If you are a farmer, with a crop, breakfast is usually an hour earlier and supper is an hour later.
I do not use lunch unless it is a fancy meeting with the girls, then we are going to have lunch.
I believe it has more to do with the persons age, at least in the south, than on the time of day.

Dinner= 6-6:30 PM
Lunch/Supper: 11:30-12:00 PM
It does depend on the day, yes. If I am on vacation, obliviously, we may have it earlier or later, depending on how much excersice we had, or what food is available. It gradually changes as we age too, since our metabolism may grow or shrink, or we just don't have certain time to eat.

I am as surprised as the last person with all the responses. I was born and raised deep in the south, South Louisiana. I have lived my ma mere & pa pere (very poor cajun folks who lived so deep into the swamps, accessable(to most) only by privately hired tour guide on boat. Of course you MUST know the water. Kids there (pre-hurricane Katrina) still rode their pirouge (PEE-ROW) TO schoool if THEY EVEN ATTEND SCHOOL.
i HAVe lived in afluent HOMES IN THE GARDEN DISTRICT. i always thought the word "supper" was used only or primarily by the deep red neck southerners, mostly by those who worked all day in the heat on the farm while their wives cooked "dinner:' all morning after serving breakfast, they. In the South many people cll the 3 meals (1) Breakfast (2)dinner (3) supper
& the same number of people calll the meals (brkf) (2) dinner) (3) supper
.
I am not a "snob" "wealthy" nor am I a "redneck" i was raised in a fmily who happen to refer to the mid day meal as "lunch" and the evening meal ;dinner..
I checked with a friend (quite the social butterfly, known for her extravagant dinner parties) and was informed that
1. LUNCH is midday and is served from 11:00 a.m till mid afternoon. The word came from the word LUNCHEON . The OED report from 1580, shows the word LUNCH was inserted between the two more substanial meals.
Dinner is also used by those people thought of as snobs. Snobbery, reverse snobery, IE: Large formal "DINNER" parties are often held, hence the dinner Jacket and the formal "dinner dress".
er outside the U.S usuallyoou o consist of five to seven course meals]1.Hors d'oueuvers
2.soup or sorbet 3,fish
4salad
5meat
6.dessert
7.cheese
Dinner inside th u.s is usually the "LARGEST MEAL OF THE DAY" i QUEBEC IT IS CALLED "SOUPER"
bECAUSE OF SOCIAL CLASSES DINNER MIGHT BE THE EVENING MEAL TO AN UPPER CLASS FAMILY WHILE LOWER MIDDLE CLASS FIELD WORKRERS WHO WORK FROM SUN UP TO SUDOWN, PROBABLY REFER TO THEIR "BIG" MEAL OF THE DAY AS DINNER AND IT IS SERVED MIDAD, WHILE MOST OTHERS HAVE ONLY BEEN WAK E FOR HALF THAT TIME.
Hope this was helpful, I checked in with local research autorities b/c i was as skocked as the other to see some of the replies.

I am surprized by the above responses. I've always said lunch for mid day and dinner and supper I thought were the same thing and I always considered them for the evening.

dinner time is mdday for me. Though, mist people i work with call the midday meal "LUNCH". The meal was originally eaten early in the day, 10am to about midday, it was usually a light meal which lasted 30 minutes- 45 minutes, the meal then over the generations shifted to midday.
