God is love. Still to fully understand what God is we first need to understand what it is that we are. Religion teaches that God is separate from us and that he lives in a far off place called heaven. This is utter nonsense.

You and I and the entire universe as we know it and infinitely more than we can comprehend are all a part of God. To really appreciate even a part of this we need to begin to teach ourselves the true scope of this idea of God. Yes each person we meet is a living part of God, but everything else in the universe is made from this God stuff to. Even if you went to the backside of the most distant planet and picked up a rock, every grain of sand beneath that rock would also be God. God is the creator. I guess you mean, the meaning of the word "God", not who He is or what his attributes are.

I would say God for monotheistic religions means the Divine Presence or Divine Order of Things, that is something that is transcendant of the Creation which has complete control over the Creation; Lord or King of all.

For polytheistic religions, the concept would be that different "gods" have control over different parts of the Creation but work as a whole; many such religions believe in one or a few supreme "gods" who has/have ordained for other gods to take on certain tasks or roles in the Creation. Hinduism is a good example of multiple supreme gods, Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu are the top three, while many other gods exist that have less significant roles.

there is no GOD per-say only the idea of him.
there was an interesting religion born out of world war two.
IT seems a Group of natives who had there own language and no ability to communicate at the time with air-force and army personel began to worship the silver gods that flew over head and would land delievering men in uniform un-like any they had seen before. these light skinned people that emerged from the belly of the gods brought strange equipment and the equipment roared like thunder and gave off smoke as they moved mountains of dirt and reshaped the land providing a place for the gods to land .these people worshiped the men in uniform and made presents to them and the gods provided them with food and strange drink.for a few years many gods came and went day and night and then suddenly they were gone .SEVERAL years later,men came again to the island and found the natives running around in uniforms left behind and they learned to communicate with the natives and learned a new religion was born when .THE military of the U.S.A. flew offer the island and droped troops and equipment to build a runnway for planes to land and help supply the war effort in the pacific .that the people of the island mistook the army corp of engineers as gods also and subsquently the gods came and swalloed up the men and would return with more .for several years these islanders observide marching and the ways of the gods .AFTER the war they wore the uniforms left behind marched and prayed to the gods to come and take them to but this never happened no matter how much they marched and cared for the base no silver gods returned to take them to heaven.
THIS is mans idea of god ---some force greater then yourself that can some how make everything better and take you away from the hardships of the world he brings you food and all manner of strange and wonderfull things and then takes you to heaven with him if you march good and keep the island clean and tidy.

HUNDREDS of cancer patients get better for a time with no explanation and man chooses to say prayer did this or god did and i say he gave them the cancer and starves and kills millions of third world peoples until modern farming equipment and supplies are brought in to save the people and we all know we are not gods.
FOR all religious people the ball is in your court and you can love your fellow man or exploit him for cheap shoes and rags to wear.YOU can bring him your god who has never done one thing for you except cause pain and suffering or just do the right thing when people are in need and do not force religion as a means to continue that support for togheter we can move mountains and feed the starving peoppppple of this world without the need for gods.
