Interestingly enough there recently was a study on prayer. It turns out that praying for someone recovering from surgery *increases* their risk of complications. So, no.

I don't think so. That kneeling thing is kind of interesting to me however, it certainly makes me fond of Christian women. I don't understand what the importance of Jesus weeping is, perhaps I've missed a connection to the power atheists have over the emotional spectrum of His Grace. I would be very interested to know which Christian sect would tabulate the statistics of answered prayers, but my concern is that all prayer are answered; sometimes the answer is no. How that may be resolved in this numerical attempt to bring in the unbelievers is difficult for me to imagine. I hope I haven't offended you in my musings, but if I know my Christians (and I do) you pretty much have to forgive me and pray for me ( I wonder what the answer to those prayers will be?), and I thank you for this. Please feel at ease standing or sitting while you do so, I don't want you to be uncomfortable as it may take a while.

How many people do you think were praying during the time between the impact of the planes and the collapse of the Towers on September 11th? Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people around the world, myself included, were watching the live reports and ultimately saw the Towers fall. And how many millions more prayed fervently that survivors would be found in the debris?

Prayer to a higher being does absolutely nothing -- except give the one who prays a false, temporary sense of well being.

As long as human beings act like helpless children who cry for their daddy to come rescue them, they are avoiding their portion of responsibility for the world around them. When will people grow up and realize that we all are connected, and as agents of free will are responsible for what happens in the world around us?

What are we doing about the world situation now? People dying in war, through disease or hunger? They are our responsibility. What goes in the world is our responsibility. We have to become involved, encourage others to become involved, demand that our politicians do the jobs they're paid to do.

We have to answer our own prayers.

I don't how many more of anybody we would see on their knees, but I'm sure we would be quite astounded by how many prayers really are answered. I was in a challenge group for one week to write down every prayer and one year later we would see how many of the prayers from that one week had been answered and when - it was awesome to see how many had been answered immediately, within days, weeks, months or had yet to be answered, but that each had been prayed in that one week and yet, in God's timing each had been answered - the most amazing part was that each answer had been far in excess of what was truly expected.

Imagine a broken-down car.

The atheists are the ones on their knees proactively trying to solve the problem because they know that if they don't, nobody will.

The theists are the ones wasting valuable time praying to a deity that is never, never, never going to answer.

Jesus wept when he saw how helpless many of his followers had become...

That would depend on the prayers.
Although He responds to our supplications we should ask all things in accordance with His will and I can assure you His will is being carried out daily.
