you need to register for the trial at www.microsoft.com and go to the vista site, you may like to try www.windowsvista.com
as i said register and you will be issued with a serial number that you can use on your own system with your own copy of VISTA
Note however you need a VERY good processor (i have a sempron 3400 (mid range) and its sluggish under vista x86 32 bit even with 3GB RAM.and a radeon 9550 graphics card.
however it's like greased lightening under the x64 version of VISTA.
be sure to have VISTA drivers for all your hardware before installing the software where possible.
oh and have all your usb periherals disconnected before you install vista.
under basic installation you need just the hard drive your installing to, your grapics card and your DVD reader/writer. then install to a clean hard drive. remeber XP formatted drives are not readable in vista. you would need to reformat in vista then they will be available in vista and xp.

Do you mean the 25 alpha-numeric Product Key?

If you downloaded the Beta from Microsoft site, they would have emailed you with it! Your free license will be active for 12 months from the date that you activate it.
