'Established' is a ambigious word as it doesn't refer to a specific event in history, rather to a general acceptance of an idea, object or state.

This history of Isreal is a very long, complicated and bloody one, but I'll try and give you a shorter answer.

If we define 'established' as 'accepted into the international community and recognised as a nation state', then the answer becomes a little simpler.

Jews started to immigrate to the area we now know as Isreal during the mid and late 1800's in order to escape from persecution, or in the pursuit of the ideal of their own homeland, lead by Zionist idealists. They purchased land from the Arabs already living in the area and the Ottoman's, who had political control in the area at that time. As they established settlements and began to cultivate the land, tensions betwee the Jewish communities and the existing Arab communities grew, and repeatedly errupted into violence.

In 1917, the British Foreign Secretary Arthur J. Balfour issued the Balfour Declaration that "view[ed] with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people". In 1920, Palestine became a League of Nations mandate administered by Britain. So Britian endorsed the idea of a Jewish state where the previously established settlements were, and took over administration of that state.

The Arabs of the area, of course, reacted violently to what they perceived to be their land being stolen from them by the Jews, and backed up by the British. However, Jewish immigration to the fledging state continued, especially after the First World War and with the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe. Attempts to control or limit Jewish immigration only angered both the Jews and the Arabs.

In 1947, the British mandate of the Palestinian state was finally abandoned, and the newly formed United Nations divided the area between the Jewish and Arab populations, 55% to 45% respectivly. Although this plan was reluctantly accepted by the Jews, the Arabs rejected it outright, and violence again flared.

Despite this, when the British mandate formally ran out, the state of Isreal was offically recognised by the United Nations on May 15, 1948.

The man who signed on the dotted line for Isreal was David Ben-Gurion.

Ever since then, Isreal has been at war with the surronding Arab states, either activley or passively. Saudia Araba still refuses to recognise the existance of the state of Isreal. It could be agued that Isreal still isn't established.

But the act which gave them the right of nationhood in international eyes, and with that right the right have an army, to have political representation on an international level was the delcaration of statehood by David Ben-Gurion and endorsed by the United Nations.

Israel is the only country in the word that has no constitution until today. It was unjustly established on the land of others in Palestine by the British who were colonizing it. Why the generous British government didn't give them part of England their own home rather than giving them the home of others, thus the worse conflict in human history that is responsible for most of the instability and violence in the world today.

The state we currently call "Israel" was established in 1948, and the British should take most of the credit (blame?).

God.

"And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will aggrandize your name, and [you shall] be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you."
