At one time, when tribes of men were small, everybody married their cousins (or brothers and sisters). At one time people believed that close bloodline procreation produced mentally defective offspring. Interbreeding tends to strengthen dominate characteristics of the bloodline. If the genes are defective, some aberrations will appear. But they are not necessarily mental. And the strengthening of such characteristics is generally not noticeable for the first couple of generations of inbreeding. One line of Pharoahs was noted for having abnormal bone growth, particularly the jaw.
It was not at all uncommon for Christians of the nineteenth century to marry cousins. My own great, great grandfather married his Mother's niece.

We do not know if Ancient Egyptians did marry sisters in the general population. It was probably a royal habit to keep the blood elements and assure the godly nature of heirs.
The practice was not COMMON either, few royal examples are found over a period of 4000 years or so.
Marrying daughters is another thing, i am not aware of that.
To marry a cousin is not related to Islam nor Judaism, it is related to eastern cultures where it is frequent among all creeds encompassing Christians, Hindus, Zoroastrians, shinto...etc..
There is at least one correct hadeeth (peer authenticated saying of Prophit Mohamed PBUH) encouraging men and women to marry nonrelatives as a mean of producing stronger and healthier breed.

I know at least that Ancient Egyptian royalty would marry within the family to keep the royal bloodline pure.

It's called in anthropology, "conservation of assets".
This is how you keep whatever it is you've got IN the family. If you're ruthless about culling the defectives caused by inbreeding, it works.

Umm, it's not unusual for christians to marry their cousins as well. point in fact: the queen of england (head of the anglican church--you can't get more christian than that, unless you're the pope) is married to her cousin. In fact most european royalty marry their cousins. And then of course there are those people in kentucky, and arkansas and mississippi--are they not christian? I wouldn't want to be the one to tell them they're not.
