This is an interesting question. I recently attended a lecture where a doctor said that the chemicals in plastic bottles can leach into the product inside which can cause a bunch of health problems. She especially said that when the plastic bottles get warm from sitting in the car, sunlight, etc. this process is sped up and more dangerous. She feels that it can cause liver damage among other things and plastic bottles should be avoided at all costs. Scary isn't it?

My sister just took a plastics class for her engineering degree. She said that it freaked her out so much not only will she not drink from those plastic water bottles, but also won't use the gladware type containers.
She says gladware is the worst - because people microwave them and it releases those toxins at a much higher rate. And, your food absorbs them much faster and at a higher content than the water bottle.
And, for baby things when you steralize you cause a reaction with the polymer buildup...and release toxins. Hence, her usuage of glass bottles.
Funny, because she's so not that kind of person!

I haven't heard that. What I have heard is that you shouldn't use a plastic bottle more than once. Apparently it harbors bad bacteria around the mouth piece. So people who refill thier water bottle are drinking that. However, I've been doing that for 20 yrs & I'm fine.

That doesn't surprise me. I think it's one of those commoningly unknown things. It would explain the increase in cancer over the recent years. But yes, if plastic is heated it can release toxins into the things that it is heating. I wonder if it is true but it wouldn't surprise me. I wonder if anyone has done research on it.
Bottled water is also bad for you because there's no fluriode in the water.

If what you say is remotely true, then I do not think most water companies will not be using plastic bottles for their water anymore, won't they? :)
