In North Korea burping is not only considered polite but is required
if you want to be a gracious guest. Throwing up at the table is
considered the ultimate compliment!

Italian.
I think the whole idea behind a burp being flattering is that the food tasted SO good that you rushed through it, and naturally gulped down some air in the process, not to mention a larger portion than usual...

The Middle Eastern countries. I worked in Saudi Arabia for a very short time. After a meal with some Arabic co-workers, I belched. And of course, said "excuse me". A young man from Lebanon asked "Why, what did you do??" It is considered a compliment to the preparer of the food and your hosts. Mind you, this was 30years ago and as we know all things change.
