Usually alcohol makes me really lively, but sometimes it makes me feel depressed. Does anyone else ever experience this?
Also, what causes this?

Alcohol is a depressant and too much can cause you to feel down, I have felt it several times after drinking vodka/screwdrivers. But tequila makes me feel happy usually maybe I don't drink as much of it , I don't know why.

yes. It happens to most people who drink a lot. Alcohol is a depressant. The temporary effect can be the opposite but then the real effect will begin. Caffeine has a similar effect. They boost you for a while but after being on a "high" you come down and feel worse than you did before. This is why people become alcoholics or other addicts because they start to think they can't cope without it as they are only happy when under the influence of their vice.

Yes, I do experience this. I have found that it depends on my underlying mood at the time, and sometimes what kind of alcohol I'm drinking. These days I stick to red or white wine, but in excess, I do often feel depressed. (But that's nothing to what it's doing to my liver!!!)

I've done some research on this and in fact, alcohol is a depressant.

My advice would be - don't drink too much if you feel you might be a bit down to start with.

Hope this helps.

'billy ladyday' just about sums it up for me, almost all the others say it is a depressant, but I (as an expert pi** artist) agree that it depends on quite a few factors , how you feel when you start off, if happy I get happier! If I meet up with some miserable git, it could make me miserable , so I dont think anyone can say it is just a depressive !
Why ? I have no idea but I will keep up the experimentation and let you know if I ever find out!
Hope this helps??

Alcohol, I find, can sometimes amplify any feelings you currently have, if you are in a good mood, drink may make you feel happy and giggly and more lively, conversley, a bad mood may make you feel depressed! Soloution, dont drink to much, and drink even less if your not felling 100%!!

If you're unhappy or depressed already, alcohol intake can indeed intensify those feelings. If you started out OK, I don't think alcohol would create depressed feeling in you!
