I am a complete teetotalar. I would not even think of accepting wine even at a communion, despite the spiritual background of the association. In our country,India, wine never forms a part of the 'prasadam' I have some Christian friends and I find that at the communion what is passed is only symbolically wine as the liquid sprinkled at the time of baptism. We are also scruplous to ensure that the person who distributes the 'prasadam' after the worship is clean(none would even dream of performing worship without first taking a bath) Against this background the question of accepting wine at the hands of an affected person does not arise. However, as a mark of respect for the source of the wine I and we would salute it and waive the distrutor along.

I would not drink from a shared cup, period. Not all, but many of the services I've seen lately have individual disposable minature plastic cups.
