Can anyone tell me the problem with my hair?
They say that it's supposed to grow 1/4 to 1/2 inch per month, but it doesn't grow at all. I'm so frustrated.
It used to grow when I was a pre-teen, but not much.
I feel doomed and am so tired of short hair as a female because to me it's not very feminine.
I've worn hair extensions, wigs, etc. I've even braided my hair before bedtime but nothing seems to work. I've tried so called miracle stuff or all types and took hair vitamins in the past....nothing!
Do I need some sort of specialist? Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, I've tried the trimming route, hairdressers, vitamins, plenty of water, moisture, the whole route.
I belong to a few hair care boards and with the different suggestions and everyone else seems to be getting results.

It grew more when you were a preteen because that was when you were going through puberty and all that, so your body was absorbing all of the nutrients that you were eating.

Braiding your hair before bedtime and trimming, those are old wives' tales. Hair grows that fast at that "averaged" speed because I think it's supposed to represent a typical healthy person. Your hair will grow faster if you have been having a healthy diet. Make sure you're eating right, and don't do too much crazy stuff to your hair like bleaching or straightening it or whatever.
Moisturizers or whatever is supposed to be for dry, damaged hair. I don't really think it's going to fix your problem.

I don't know if this is real or not, but when I was about nine years old, I had this problem where my hair kept falling out. My mom heard about this thing where you gently knead crushed ginger into your scalp. I guess it worked for me because my hair stopped falling after that.. I guess you could say my scalp is pretty dense now.

However, if nothing is seriously working, you may want to get it checked because there's a .. I don't know what to call it except a disease where all your hair falls out.. Makes it more convenient on shaving I guess, but yea, it's called alopecia, and you could research more deeply into it.

Last of all I just wanted to say that having short hair isn't a bad thing. I really want to have my head shaved right now, or more specifically, a mohawk, but my family isn't agreeing. Too bad, one of these days when I go out I'm coming back with half my head shaved.

You can check with your family doctor to see if there is a health problem affecting your hair, such as thyroid imbalance. A dermatologist can also help with scalp and hair-related issues.

Your hair is genetically programmed to grow to a certain length. Each person's hair grows for a pre-determined length of time, then falls out and is replaced by another hair. If your hair has a short growing life, it will be difficult to grow it long. Do you see a lot of hair falling out? There is also something called synchronicity, when many hairs reach the end of their growing cycle at the same time just by chance, and all fall out at the same time. This can be alarming, but doesn't mean you're going bald! Forget all those products that claim to make your hair grow longer... they're useless. It sounds like you've tried to take really good care of your hair, so keep it up. It may not be long, but it'll be beautiful.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked. Some of the common symptoms of a low thyroid or hypothyroidism is flaky nails, joint pain and hair falls out or doesn't grow very fast. The thyroid can be checked with a simple blood test at your physicians office and can be regulated with a daily pill. Good luck.

When my hair is short and I want to grow it long I always keep it pulled up in a ponytail for some odd reason this seems to make my hair grow really fast or maybe its because you get used to it being pulled up and when you take it down you actually realize how long it really is.I hope this helps.

Drinks lots of milk and be kind to your hair. Limit the amount of processes you put it through. Blow drying, curling, coloring, perming, ...even braiding can put stess on it and cause it to weaken. Keep your scalp healthy and clean,..no mouse or gel. Give that a month and see if you notice a difference.

You say you have tried vitamins, but have you tried prenatal vitamins. They have all the multivitamin stuff + a little extra. They make my hair AND nails grow great!

You could try prenatal vitamins but that isn't needed in my opinon. The next best thing would be biotin. Don't flat iron, curl, etc your hair too much.
