Transmission of a disease depends on which disease it is. Sexual transmission encompasses a lot of things. The root of it is: does the disease spread through skin contact or through fluids?

Diseases that spread by skin contact include crabs (pube lice), scabies, herpes, HPV and syphilis. This means **dry humping** and penetrative sex can transmit the disease. So for those of you who thought it was safe "not to go all the way in," you're wrong.

Other diseases need fluid exchange to travel. These include gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, Hep B and HIV. To get these, you need to engage in unprotected penetrative sex (vaginal or anal).

And then there's oral sex. You can spread herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia and in rarer instances HIV and yeasts via unprotected oral sex. Use a condom and dental dam for any oral-genital or oral-anal contact.

Anything that involves the sharing of body fluids (depending on the disease, this includes blood, saliva, semen, vaginal fluid). Can be oral, anal, vaginal, and a slight possibility of getting fluids into cuts (although that is rare).
