In response to a previous answer, HPV is not small enough to be passed through a condom. There are not microscopic holes in latex condoms (lambskin condoms are a different story). HPV can be transmitted even with a condom because it is a virus that exists on the skin, and condoms do not cover ever part of the skin that touches your partner. The same is true for herpes. That being said, condoms are still the best way to prevent STDs.

And yes, oral sex can pass most if not all of STDs. I have seen plenty of patients with gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis and others that they acquired through oral sex.

It is never 100% safe.

There are devices for helping to prevent the spread of STDs beyond condoms (dental dams, etc) for oral sex though.

This is why you shouldn't have sex with someone who has a questionable history without making him get tested first.

edit: but condoms ARE like 90% safe when used correctly, and usually the fail rate is because of user error not condom error (put on wrong, hole etc)

The only way to have safe sex is for two people to be in a monogomous relationship where both parties have been tested for STD's and are totally faithful to each other. That way its safe with or without condoms.

Yes, oral sex can spread disease too.

Also, even with flawless condom use, it is possible to spread the skin diseases like herpes and HPV (genital warts). It is possible for these to be located on the surrounding areas of the genitalia where a condom would not cover, thus allowing them to touch you and possibly spread.

My doctor informed me a condom will not necessarily protect you from herpes. You can catch herpes when there are no lesions present. The amount of people with herpes is something like 1 in 6. Some men might not even know they have it, their cases sometimes are so mild. Women generally ALWAYS know because of the flu like symptoms and the amount of outbreak.

That's correct. Condoms don't protect against all STDs. HPV is one STD that's small enough to be passed through a condom.

You could wear a full body condom like in Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun. But yeah, a condom does not protect against crawling STDs.

you can get STD's even if the guy waers a condom. If a body part touches that has and STD to one that doesn't then most likley the will get it sooner or later.
