Breakthrough bleeding, premature periods or irregular periods are typically not symptoms of any STD. It could be a symptom of a hormonal issue or any other host of gynecological problems. Sexually active or not she needs to be seen by a physician, try Planned Parenthood if she is afraid of someone finding out.

If she is sexually active she needs to get tested and visit her Doctor for physicals on the regular. This will the catch the infection and allow her to get help quickly. Just tell her to make an appointment with a doctor asap. Her sex partner(s) need to do the same. if she just started having sex and is on birth control her period date maybe changing. She may be fine.

This obviously is a medical problem; why are you asking us? But since you asked I will give my opinion. Most STD's produce a foul smelling, or itchy discharge; or are associated with some central nervous system response e.g. tingling or a general malaise. the discharge can be white, yellow, thin or thick like cottage cheese. since you said it was 'bleeding' I would venture to say your friend is probably having what is known as 'breakthrough' bleeding. It can occur at anytime in a woman's menstrual cycle. She should have her GYN doctor evaluate.

I'm out of my league with this topic. But I'll comment anyway: Perhaps her period is early, and she does not have a STD? Is the discharge different than her usual period?
