Does anybody know if this is true? And if it is, is it from all the rain?

Thanks television.... I'm in Washington now and everyone keeps telling me the rain is really hard on people here. 90% of the people I know are on anti-depressants.

Ok ap_98037, no need to get mad, it was just a question, lol. I don't even know about Seattle, I haven't even been there yet. We're in the Tacoma area on the army base. I didn't say it was a fact and didn't even try to look it up cuz I knew I'd get an answer here. I've already been told that it rains more in some parts of Washington than others. So calm down, it's all good, lol.

mrs_herman452, a fellow chicagoan!! That's how I feel. The rain isn't that bad. But in Chicago, even if it snows, there's sun, lol.

millancad, I said 90% of the people I know, that wasn't overall number of the people in WA. You probably didn't catch that.

Caution: Annual fluctuations in state levels combined with often relatively small populations can make these data highly variable. The use of several years' data is preferable to conclusions based on single years alone. 24.5

Also Annual rainfall for major cities in U.S.

Boston MA 41.5%
Chicago, IL 36.3%
Houston TX 47.8 %
Miami, Fl 58.5 %
Seattle, Wa 36.1 %

Also the Seattle area according to mens health magazine in 06 was rated nations fittest city. Lets use our common sense if people are always depressed, they are not going to exercise. Seattle is also tops amongst american cities in people with bachelor's degrees ages 25 and up.

Ignorance is not bliss!!!!!

The 90% of people on antidepressants thing can't be true, because at least 1/3 of the population is kids. But I'm pretty sure that it does have the highest suicide rate in the US, at least of the big cities. The sun makes people happier, it's just how we're made. During the winter some people get SAD, it's a disorder. Seasonal Affective Disorder I think. If it's really bad, some ppl commit suicide. So yeah, Seattle makes people sad.

I like Seattle though. Of course, anything is better than Cinci.

I could believe that, but it could also be false. Washington is seperated by a huge mountain range (cant think of the name right now, lol) and it doesnt rain all the time in all parts of the state. I lived in Spokane for 6 years, its on the opposite side of the mountains from Seattle. We got very average rainfall there, about as much as we get where I now live (Green Bay, WI). So, half of the state doesnt get as much rainfall as Seattle and the other towns on the same side, so if the statement is true, it cant all be due to the rain.....

I lived in Seattle for a year, and at first the rain was ok, I liked rain, then about after a week, I was so mad I just wanted to go back to Chicago. It doesn't rain everyday, its just that there is hardly any sunny days, there are some, but not many!

Yes, and it isn't as much from the rain as the gloomy overcast days that can go on and on and on. There is even a bridge in Seattle that is nicknamed the suicide bridge.
