There is no accurate test for the strain of HPV that causes genital warts. Warts are only diagnosed clinically (by the doctor or nurse looking at them). Pap smears can detect HPV, but as a prior person said, the strain that causes cervical changes is not the same as the strain that causes warts. In any case, you can get infected immediately, from one contact, but it does usually take months to develop warts or cervical changes.

You can also contract the virus, and never develop symptoms, but pass it on to another partner.

Unfortunately, HPV is a virus that we do not know alot about at this point.

you can take the new HPV test and I think the window period on that is 6 months. Your pap can show HPV but only if you are having problems at the time like cells that shouldnt be there.

The HPV that caused warts isnt the HPV which most times causes cervical cancer. Cervical cance is what the papa looks for. Warts can be clinically diagnosised

HPV won't show up that fast in a test, it took me about 6 months to find out I had it. Also, can be painful to treat. Good luck.

You can get the virus that fast, but symptoms probably wont show up for a few months, even years!
