Most people these days get too much protein than what is good for them. Trust me - excessive protein is BAD!
Ok, for a start, tofu doesn't smell. It's basically odourless...and pretty tasteless as well. To get adequate protein make sure that you eat three servings of beans, lentils, quinoa (which has higher quality protein than meat) tofu (soya) and basically any other seed vegetable. But it's pretty hard to eat food these days WITHOUT getting enough protein so there isn't really much to worry about. You should eat lots of green vegetables - lack of iron is a bigger problem than lack of protein. Before you become vegetarian do lots of research on it - and I mean LOTS.

I'm a vegetarian and hate tofu. First of all, protein is in everything. It's nearly impossible not to get enough. Most people actually get too much because it's been drilled into our heads that more is better. The average americans eats 100 grams a day...way too much!
1/2 cup lentils = 3 oz. steak
2 slices whole grain bread = a small chicken breast
Whole wheat pasta has 9 grams per serving!
Even a bagel has 7-8 grams of protein
Someone suggested tuna or salmon. Last time I checked, those were still animals. I gotta wonder about common sence LOL
New vegetarians often start with meat substitutes. Some of my favorites are Amys Texas BBQ burgers, Gardenburger riblets and morningstar farms chik'n patties. Lightlife makes a sausage roll that is fantastic and you use it in place of ground sausage.

Read your food labels. There's protein is a wide variety of foods, even those like bread and pasta that we write off as "just carbs." There is a whole world of soy out there besides tofu and all other legumes are also a good source of protein, including lentils, beans and peanuts. Dairy products and eggs are high in protein and can be included in your diet unless you've chosen to try veganism. Whole grains and leafy greens even have protein.

Ive been a vegetarian for the last eight years.
Here's what i suggest: Morning star farms
Boca (both in frozen food)
Peanut butter and nuts
Veggie lunch meat by:
smart deli
eggs
cheese yogurt and dairy
fruits and veggies
Basically there is a vegetarian substitute for any kind
of real meat. Made out of textured vegetable protein (iknow sounds weird) Just look around a grocery store.
Also you might want to start taking a multi vitamin.

Ahh the protein myth...
Of course. Firstly, tofu has no smell unless its rotten or poorly seasoned.
More protein can be absorbed into our systems from veggies than meat...meat does not process well and most exits undigested.
Beans, nuts, brown rice, leafy greens...there are plenty of sources. Just pull up a nutrition data website and look up whatever food you are interested in and it will show you.

I'm glad you asked this question. I've been considering becoming a vegetarian also. It's so confusing when you hear people say different things about protein. But all in all I think it's the healthiest choice to be vegetarian.
Good luck to you :)

Good for you! I've been veg for 3 years. Most Americans get way more protein than they need, so don't worry too much about it. All the stuff already suggested is good. (except the chicken and fish.)

why be a vegetarian? There is a reason God created animals such as cows, goats, chicken etc.... imagine if we stop eating all the cows and goats, they will be over populated and eat all the vegetation on the planet. Then what will the vegetarians do?
