Absolutely! Babies can be born with a few different STDS and when they get old enough to have sex with someone, they can definitely pass it to one of their sex partners.
Babies can be born with herpes if the mother has it. The babies usually get it while they are coming through the birth canal and the mother is currently having an outbreak. A lot of women with herpes chose to have a C-section to prevent the baby from getting it. Also, people can get cold sores (herpes simplex one) from being kissed by someone who has cold sores, or even sharing chap stick or lipstick with someone. They can be virgins and still get this.
Babies can also be born with HIV if the mother has it. Since HIV can be transmitted through blood the baby can get this from the mother since they are connected with each other through the umbilical cord.
There are also STDS that can cause some serious health problems for pregnant women.
If Chlamydia is left untreated it can cause early miscarriage or premature birth.
Gonorrhea can cause life-threatening complications such as ectopic pregnancy (outside the womb) if left untreated.
Mothers can pass syphilis to their babies by touching the syphilis sores (chancres) and then touching the baby.

Just a point of interest to everyone....the term is now STIs not STDs...Sexually Transmitted Infections.
But anyway, as many of the previous answers have stated, you can be born with an STI. Some STIs like HIV can be passed directly to the fetus while other STIs cause secondary problems like Chlamydia which cause eye infections and pneumonia in new borns.
So, if you have intercourse with someone born with HIV you can certainly get it. This is why there is such a huge problem in Africa...they do not have the AZT medications that reduce the risk of mother to fetus transmission of the disease. These are more widely used in North America and that is why there is a lower incidence of mother to child transmission.

Absolutely. As mentioned, a fetus can catch an infection in the womb. HIV can also be transmitted through breast milk. HPV and herpes can be transmitted during birth.
These reasons, and the fact that a person can have asymptomatic infections and appear healthy while actually being contagious, are the reason why the term "STD" is dropping out of favour with doctors and is being replaced with "STI", which means "sexually transmissible infection." The new term emphasizes infection rather than disease, and replacing "transmitted" with "transmissible" emphasizes that while these infections MAY be caught through sex, that is not the ONLY way they can be caught.

If the mother has herpes she can give the baby herpes if she was in an active stage.Yes, women who are pregnant can become infected with the same sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as women who are not pregnant. Pregnancy does not provide women or their babies any protection against STDs. In fact, the consequences of an STD can be significantly more serious, even life threatening, for a woman and her baby if the woman becomes infected with an STD while pregnant. It is important that women be aware of the harmful effects of STDs and know how to protect themselves and their children against infection.

if a person IS BORN with an std, then YES!!!! they can pass it onto someone else even though they themselves have never had sex.
they have the illness PERIOD, so that means you can get it too if you do not protect yourself.
and only HIV that i know of can be passed from the mother to the child...
if a women has herpes or warts outbreak during the time she is giving birth, they most likely will do a cesarean as the disease could be spread to the baby coming thru the vagina.

Many sexually transmitted diseases can be passed perinatally from the mother to the fetus. Just because a mother is infected doesn't mean that the fetus is guaranteed to receive the disease, but there is a good chance

If you're looking for specifics...herpes is the first that comes to mind. If a woman has herpes and delivers naturally then she can pass it on to her baby. If a woman knows she has herpes, then usually she will have a c-section to avoid this.
