15 kids??? How old are they??? Assuming that they are young still and that the party will be during the heat of the day, be sure to add water fun to your party!

Tip: The fair type games are fun but they take a lot of adult supervision. You said you wanted to just relax and enjoy the party so I wouldn't conduct any structured games that require someone running them and handing out prizes.

Always a hit: water balloons (be sure to keep them away from the table area), squirt guns, and candy-filled pinatas (find one shaped like a firecracker!)

Another fun water activity: Fill a small blow-up pool with ice cubes and let the kids play with them. The only rules: They have to use their feet! No hands! No throwing ice cubes!

Have a craft table so kids can make their own take home gifts: "firecrackers" toilet paper rolls decorated with red, white and blue tissue paper. Use gold or silver on end to look like the flames. Have them fill them with small toys and candies.

Or, if you don't want to give away toys and candies, have them make their own red, white and blue pinwheels. Get directions on the internet. They use only a square sheet of paper! Cheap and easy!

Don't forget the traditional watermelon seed contest. Everyone gets a slice. Who has the most seeds? Who spits his the farthest?

Have fun!

Make all the food the day before, choose ones that do not need reheating. A lot of the traditional foods fall under this catagory. Potato salad, coleslaw, that cake with the red and blue berries, lemonade, all done in advance. Try even cooking the meat the day before. Bake the ribs slow, in the oven, just put enough charcoal in the barbie the day of to heat it up and give some charcoal taste.
Buy disposable everything, decorations, serving dishes. You might try a catering service. They often provide everything, some deliver and set up, some you have to pick it up. And do not forget the deli counter at the grocery. A little expensive, but time saving. Think potluck-ask the relatives to stop off and pick up something. One of our local restaurants put the chicken and sides in big foil square pans, and even provide the plastic spoons and forks to serve with.
Have the kids make musical instruments [like fife and drums like that famous painting don't forget strips of old sheets to use for bandages. Good photo op, too]for a forth of july concert, or some of the decorations. Try trivia for the adults, who were the signers of the declaration? Prizes available at the party store.
Try your local discount party store for decorations. They have all the plates and napkins, too. Look at Martha Stewart.com before you go, bet she has some good ideas you can copy.
Elect set-up and clean up committees. Even the kids can get into that act.
Try some local stores that everything is a buck. They have decorations for cheap, and usually have games and toys, too.
Hope I helped.

I had a situation like that. I went to my local dollar store and bought a bunch of plastic metals..the ones that go around the neck. I had my own Olympics in the backyard. We played musical chairs, had a water balloon contest, a treasure hunt..all kinds of games. At the end of each game the winner would get a medal..The kids loved it.

I served finger foods and chips and things, kids love that stuff.

I didn't really decorate but then again kids don't really care about that..they just want to have fun

hope this helps :) and have a fun party!

Will there be adults too? if so, Do a scavenger hunt. Either have clues they have to find with a list of things to ask people for (ie: penny dated 2005, a toothpick, business card)

Keep decorations to a minimum. Put out citronella candles as center pieces and light them at night.

If you want to stay out of the kitchen use a crock pot and stuff you can make in the morning or the day before.

YANKEE POT ROAST, SALAD AND JELLO!

SPINACH SALAD
3 bunch fresh spinach washed and dried, or cheat and get the prewashed ones at the market
1 c dried cranberries
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts or both.
1/4 c sunflower seeds
feta cheese
a viniagrette dressing
Mix ingredients together and add dressing before serving.
People can help themselves to the salad.

YANKEE POT ROAST
Pot roast using the slow cooker/crock pot is the only way to go!
Start it when you wake up, its ready by 4! If the party early, then cook it on low right before you go to bed.

5 lb chuck roast
2 pkg onion soup mix, dry
2 cans cream mushroom soup, campbells
1 whole celery bunch, diced
2 onions, diced
4 whole carrots, peeled and cut
5 potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/2
1 crushed garlic cloves
5 tbsp flour

In the crock pot, add cream mushroom soups, 2 cans of water, the lipton dry soups, flour and mix the ingredients well.

Add the roast and the garlic. Mix around til covered with soup mix. Add the onions and veggies. Add water to barely cover the veggies (remember the water level may go up during cooking!).

If potatoes won't fit, then cook them separately (ie: roast, mashed, as chips, etc.)

Cover and turn crock pot to medium/high.
Cook 6-8 hours and it will be so tender! If you need to cook overnight, keep low!

JELLO DESSERT
3 pkgs large jello, same flavor
2 coolwhip
fresh fruits

Make the jello as on the package but use 1/2 cup less water per package. In a non metalic bowl, add jello and Add fresh fruit like fresh strawberries, grapes, chopped apples. Let it chill for 4-6 hours (or make it the night before). Mix up the jello and add 1/2 tub of cool whip. Add more if desired. Mix well, and its like an ambrosia.

Serve in glass cups and top with more fresh fruit.
