Apparently dropping any sort of anything into any sort of soda causes a little bit of fizz, Diet Coke and mentos just happened to work the best.
"These chemists are saying that the primary cause is physical, not chemical. Their explanation: nucleation sites. If you have a liquid that is supersaturated with gas (like soda, which is pumped full of carbon dioxide), a nucleation site is a place where the gas is able to form bubbles. Nucleation sites can be scratches on a surface or specks of dust – anywhere that you have a high surface area in a very small volume. That's where bubbles can form.
Mentos seem to be loaded with nucleation sites. In other words, there are so many microscopic nooks and crannies on the surface of a Mento that an incredible number of bubbles will form when you drop it in a bottle of soda. Since the Mentos are also heavy enough to sink, they react with the soda all the way to the bottom. The escaping bubbles quickly turn into a raging foam, and the pressure builds dramatically. Before you know it, you've got a big geyser happening!
"
PS if you haven't seen the fountain, it's pretty cool.

I heard that when mentos and diet coke are mixed together, you get the breaking bonds between water and carbon dioxide which is initiated by the arabian gum found in the mentos. I actually saw a video from google.com videos where some kids took dry ice, which is carbon dioxide cooled down to the solid state. What happened in that video is amazing. The whole plastic bottle exploded without any trouble. So I would say that yes it works with anything that has carbon dioxide and water in it.

Yeah, i have finished the mentos in eating regimen coke component. you need to apply eating regimen coke in the different case it gained't artwork to boot. in case you try it, be careful. make optimistic you've a tube to drop the mentos through in the different case you may want to finally end up with coke on your face. people recommend that you do not drink the coke afterwards, only in case the chemical reaction continues to be contemporary. i'm no longer optimistic what the chemical reaction is and that i by no skill realized the stickiness enormous difference. yet attempt it at the same time with your acquaintances. I did and it turned right into a sight to work out. :-]
