vegetarian food is really healthy. just imagine how many viruses, bacteria, hormones and antibiotics are there in meat! Have you noticed that antibiotics dont work so well as they used to? One of the reasons is that they feed animals with them and then, when people eat this meat, they consume antibiotics as well. So both your body and bacteria get used to it and they are not effective anymore. Also, animals which are about to be killed suffer for most of their lifes and also when they are being killed. Their bodies release some chemicals) dont remember how they are called), which, when eaten by humans, make them feel stressed (on unconscinous level) as well. Study more about nutrition, there are plenty of books nowadays about it! If you wanna eat proteins, try eg. tofu or soya, they contain more than meat does. Also eat vegetables and fruits to get vitamins. Good luck!

You can absolutely be healthy on a vegetarian diet as long as (and this is equally true for meat eaters) you are eating a balanced and varied diet. Protein is most people's biggest concern and that reflects some weird Western obsession with it. The truth is that most Americans get way too much protein, to the detriment of their health. And the notion of complete proteins is also misleading; your body will complete the proteins you consume from microorganisms in your digestive tract. And non-animal sources of protein are not only high quality proteins, but are used more efficiently by your body with less taxation to the liver and kidneys than flesh proteins.

Take the time to learn about all your nutritional requirements and make an effort to eat a balanced diet. There's a reason why vegetarians live longer than meat eaters... because it's a healthy choice that can be part of a healthy lifestyle.

Personaly I am a full vegetarian all the time.
I have been for about 3 months, and this is the healthiest I've felt in a long time.
Your mom is right, but you can change that. Buy a book on being vegetarian, and read up on how to get a good meal in without meat, that way you AND your mom are both happy. Good luck.

Unless you have studied nutrition you probably are not eating a healthy diet. For instance you know what protein is but do you know what a complete protein is? That is just one thing. You need to know much more in order to be healthy with a vegetarian diet. Your mom is right. I hope you will not be mad because your mom is concerned about your health. If you really want to do this, go to school and take classes in nutrition so you know what you are doing.

I was a vegetarian for about a year until I got Gallstones at the age of 17 (in case you don't know it, it is really rare for people under the age of 40 to get gallstones). So, I would say that some things are required, if you want do it in moderation, but in the end it should be your choice.

I am a vegetarian and i have to say regardless if it is healthy (which it is when you eat the right foods) it is the morally correct thing to do. Stay vegetarian and eat the right foods.

As your previous response said, do your research, you CAN eat a proper healthy diet "vegetarian style". Show mom your research as proof.
Just a note, are you a total vegen or partial, I think it is funny when people claim to be vegens and they are still consuming dairy products and seafood!
