I have a friend who puts raw mushrooms in her salad and I've grown up learning that mushrooms can be toxic, poisonous when eaten raw.
Who's right here?

Raw is fine. Only poisonous mushrooms are dangerous and they will make you sick even if you cook them. The kind in the store just need to be rinsed off.

I love raw mushrooms in a salad but better, I eat raw mushroom with dip. It's really good in 24 hour salad, too!

You can eat the non-poisonous varieties raw. I find they have a better flavor when eaten raw. Poisonous ones are better left uneaten whether raw or cooked. They wouldn't sell them in grocery stores if they were poisonous. Unless you're VERY knowledgeable don't eat any you find in your yard or in the woods. What you think is a button mushroom could be a death cap mushroom.

The mushrooms that you buy from the supermarket can be eaten raw - but don't go about picking mushrooms from the garden or anything.

Yes Mushrooms can be eaten raw, although I prefer them sauted in butter or margarine, or in a soup. Although some mushrooms are poisonous, I am sure the ones your friend put in the salad are not.
"Poisonous" mushrooms are poisonous even when they're cooked.
A poisonous mushroom would have black or grey gills while the non poisonous variety would have pink gills.
By the way your friend must have eaten the mushroom salad by now right? Well did she die? Which of course that should have answered your question.

You can eat mushrooms from a grocery store raw. Just dont go out in the woods and start eating mushrooms cuz they can be poisonous.

I eat raw mushrooms all the time.
If you can eat a mushroom cooked, then you can eat one raw.
Unless it's toxic cooked, it's not toxic raw
