I am having a 4th of July party and (at dark we are having fireworks) but with about 14 guests including children, what is a good activity during down time before or after we eat and before it gets dark to do fireworks? I'm going to try to find my dartboard, but is there any games (indoor or outdoor) that can be good for a group of people?

Unbeatable combination for the 4th-- beer, barbeque and blowing things up. Of course, kids just have to watch some of that.

Well you can get a huge puzzle of something patriotic and have the entire group of people take a certain amount of pieces, and try to put the puzzle together. Perhaps a 3D puzzle of the White House or something.

Maybe if you wanna get really creative maybe you should find some trivia in regards to the 4th of July, and have like a mini Jeopardy/Game Show thing, where who ever answers the most trivia wins.

Another fun game to play is Cranium, Taboo, Pictionary and Scattergories.

Maybe you could do a 4th of July Treasure Hunt... Make a list of Items related to the 4th of July, and hide those items all over the yard or something and see who can collect all the items.

Finally, Hide and Seek, Tag, Freeze Tag, or you can take a ball or even a water balloon and pass it around (by throwing it to people) without dropping it or breaking it, who ever drops it gets a penalty (and you can make those up).

If you want more ideas you can email me.

A "water war" is always a good way to go; go out and buy some water balloons, squirt guns and (if you don't have a built in pool or anything) maybe one of those little cheap plastic pools. If your guests will be arriving in the early afternoon, this is really fun because it'll likely be real hot and nothing beats pelting one another with a water balloon, right? Of course, if you are going to have smaller children then the water balloon part might be dangerous (choking hazard). Be sure to supply lots of sunscreen too! Happy fourth!

Get people in groups and have a scavenger hunt.
Or have the kids do it and they have to find stuff like a 2004 penny, a receipt from a store, a business card, get someone's license number, etc.

You can also have a bunch of disposable cameras out, and have people take pictures. Then on a table have scrapbook material and have them create a page.

Our parties involving kids always end up with a water and/or mud fight. It's outdoors, hot, the kids are in the sprinkler or have water guns, and one always shoots an adult. It makes for a lot of fun and you dry fast. That happened by accident at one of our parties and people still talk about it. Also from experience, kids and darts (even soft ones) don't mix. They throw them at everything but the dart board.

You could play volleyball, have a savenger hunt, or you if you have a couple of c.d.s or something you could play part of a song and have the guest guess the song name and/or writer! You could also watch a movie or play a board game or just talk and have some music on. You could also play a card game. Hope this helps you!!

We created the Classic Rock Scavenger Hunt a few years back. Make a super set of classic rock favorites on numerous tapes or cd's, but dont' label them. Give each couple or family a sheet of paper and a pen, and the longest list wins. It can really bring a couple or family together.
