hemp handcuffs and tofu strap ons. Scratchy and sloppy. Considering your options I'd stick with leather.

There are a variety of types of so-called "vegetarianism". Some adherents to the loosest seem to think that eating chicken and fish along with a largely veggie diet qualifies, I do not. There are ovo-lacto vegetarians, and there are vegans. I am certain there are many other varieties but this is enough for a quick summary.
If one is vegan one does not use anything of animal origin. That includes using white granulated sugar since it is filtered thru animal bone char. Some do not use silk because the silk worms are killed in the production of the fiber for weaving, and some do not use woolen fabrics because of the inhumane methods of sheep shearing that are common.
It is not about the letter of the definition, but about the spirit of the concept. It depends upon the reasons the person chooses vegetarian practices, and the kind of vegetarian one is.
Perhaps, if one were a vegan, and made this choice to avoid contributing to suffering (in all its guises) in the world, one might find leather and S&M gear and practices incompatible.
My thought might be that, if one were a philosophical vegetarian, that one would find S&M practices and gear incompatible with any sort of actual vegetarian belief structure. This relates to the underlying psychic abuses and pains that occur within the reality of S&M practices, regardless of whether they seem "fun" at the time. But, if one has simply chosen to eliminate eating certain animal products for ones own direct health benefit, one might find sufficient loopholes and justifications to allow one to do as one pleases.
It all boils down to whether it is philosophy or only practice, and whether the focus is immediate and self directed, or universal and not limited in time. The remaining factor is how strongly one adheres to the pattern one chooses.

Vegetarians and vegans are different. Vegetarians simply don't eat meat and meat-based products while vegans also boycott all products-food or not-that could potentially harm an animal in the making of the product. So yes, it is acceptable for a vegetarian to wear the gear, but not a vegan. (If you believe you are more vegan than vegetarian, try pleather or other leather substitute materials.)

It all depends on your reasons for not eating meat and your own morals. If you don't eat meat bacause you dont believe in eating flesh from an animal and also dont believe in consuming products from animals that were harmed or killed in an inhumane fashion, then you might not want to use traditional leather s/m products/outerwear. However, there are alternatives you can use such as "fake" leather, rubber and "Paintable latex" that peels off the body, or use products made of non animal substances.
It's really all about what your able to live with and your reasons for not eating meat. Some people just cant stand the taste, or get sick if they eat it.

It depends on the reason a person becomes vegetarian in the first place as i am vegetarian and still wear leather shoes etc... i dont eat meat as i dont like the thought of eating dead flesh and dont think its healthy to my indigestion system so i am a vegetarian as i dont eat meat, but if people say that its because of the killing of animals( which i dont agree with but...) but still wear leather etc then i think they should become vegan then that's when you become serious and don't eat dairy meat or where leather etc.... so you have to class yourself a vegan if you don't agree in wearing leather etc that is the truth

Well normally people are vegetarian because they think "meat is murder" so I would have thought that they would not want to wear leather or anything else as the animal has to die for it. However, if someone is a vegetarian because they have convinced themselves it is a healthier option rather than thinking it wrong to kill animals then I suppose that would be ok.

Until such a day as we have a vegetarian high council which punishes vegetarians for not doing what they judge to be acceptable (or we become over-run by some totalitarian religion) then YES! It is acceptable for vegetarians to have leather straps on their strap-ons.
Its also acceptable for them to wear leather shoes, leather hats or eat meat on saturdays if they so desire.
Such is the nature of freedom!

I am a vegetarian and I don't own any shoes, belts, clothes, purses, etc that are made out of animal fur or leather. I also don't own anything made with pearls and ivory. Because I think it is these material things that are the number one cause of killing the animals. But my siblings and parents are vegetarian and they have things that are made of leather and fur. so I don't think being a vegetarian means that you have to obstain from wearing things that are made out of leather, that choice depends solely on what your idea of animal cruelty is.

Yeah, "vegetarian" only really extends to eating habits. If a person was also bothered about leather and stuff, they'd probably be a vegan, surely?

It's personal preference. Technically vegetarianism is not eating animal meat. Veganism is not eating any animal byproduct (such as eggs or milk). Leather is an animal byproduct. So , if you are vegetarian, you can use leather if you want to. It's up to you to determne your beliefs.
