I know this is stupid but okay, I need serious answers. I have a friend who has HIV, what I'm concerned about though is how easily can you contract HIV from someone if it isn't sexual contact. Meaning like say he has a cut on his hand and I have a cut on my face or even a zit and he touches my face...if they aren't bleeding can HIV be spread that easily, I mean can it be spread that easily through common everyday contact?

I just was reading the question and I realized how stupid I sound....sorry for that, but I'm just really curious, I get really paranoid about things like this.

Hello,
That is great that you are still friends with HIV person most people would just distant themselves from them.
Hiv is bloodborne, which means they has to be ablood to blood contact.
As far as i know like everyday contact it isnt possible to be infected with hiv, remember hiv dosent survive well in the air and it also means that the more it is being exposed in the air, the weaker it gets and also harder for it to infect a non-hiv person.
I also know that it cannot survive in water as well and also when a hiv blood is dried up completely its harmless as far as i know.
This are things taht you cannot catch hiv from,
A mosquito bite
A toilet
Sharing food or utensils
Hugging
Taking care of someone with AIDS
Kissing
A swimming pool
Giving blood
Sneezing or coughing
Spitting
Sharing makeup
Hope this gives you some peace of mind and you do have the right to be paranoid because i have known some people get extremely paranoid and showing some symptoms but because they think alot it is just stress nothing more.
Take care and Thank you

Nobody has yet discovered the origin of HIV. The leading hypothesis (the last time I checked) was that SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus) somehow mutated and crossed from primates (probably chimpanzees) into humans (becoming HIV, or the human immunodeficiency virus). This is just a hypothesis, but it seems to be the most supported one. The two types of HIV appear to have originated in two places in Africa from two different species of primates. If this is true, it would have spread early on through people butchering monkeys in the jungles of Africa, and likely through sexual contact with their spouses. The only reason people in the USA think it's a "gay disease" is that it is believed the virus first came to the USA via Europe through a gay man, which introduced it into the gay community, and this is what made the news. Had it spread through the breeder community, I'm sure it would be stagmatized quite differently. However, in the USA, as in the rest of the world, it is now an equal-opportunity pathogen, and isn't restricted to, or largely more prevalent in any particular group of people.

That whole zit thing you just said... it's possible to get it then. Or if you two were to make out because people usually have cuts in your mouth. Still, the chances of that happening is a lot less, about 1/1000 cases. (I read that from somewhere a month ago during my "HIV Paranoia" phase...) And you absolutely cannot get it from everyday contact, sharing toilet seats... none of that. You can't get it from sweat or saliva, even if you were to cry into his eye. Not that you'd do that anyway.

HIV is not that easy to catch. his bodily fluids have to mix with yours in order for you to catch it. if he had a cut on his hand that was not scabbed over and that cut came in contact with an open (unscabbed) cut on your face, yes you could contract HIV but the chances are pretty low. i recommend being careful while you are around him but not overly paranoid.

I am no Doctor, but I believe it can be transfer by and blood or sexual contact. I dont think sweat can transfer it cause Magic Johnson played some in the NBA while he had it. Maybe saliva but i am not sure about that. Its always better to be safe than sorry.

If the blood mixes yes it can happen. Both cuts would have to be bleeding and then mashed on top of each other. It is highly unlikely. So if you hug him you probably don't have too much to worry about.

Don't be sorry, alot of people are very paranoid around that. It's just fear of the unknown, you've got to get used to it like heights or hedgehogs.

it is my understanding that the aids virus is one of the most fragile germs out there. of corse - by now- we know the dangers and you are smart to check everything out.
if you wre to touch the aids virus with your finger - you would kill it. hep c is the germ in dentistry i fear the most.
