I think I may have contracted HPV... I recently slept with someone who had the virus- unprotected... he didn't tell me until afterwards. he was recently treated for genital warts and had them frozen off. he didnt have any warts or open sores at the time of intercourse..but i know you can get it if it happens to be lurking in the genital region at that time.....
what do you think the likeliness that i have gotten it is ?
:(
thanks

Do you think there is ANY possibility I didn't get it? No, right? So I should just brace myself for having this...? Do any of you have it?

I have HPV. It's not the end of the world. Feeling scared and angry is normal. In time, those feelings will reside. Acceptance of your condition is the key to overcoming it.

There is some good news about HPV. Your body can eliminate the virus on its on in time. HPV that causes genital warts is a "low risk" subtype. That means you are less likely to develop cervical cancer, but you still can. You need to eat healthy, exercise and take a multivitamin to keep your immune system strong. Most people experience symptoms of HPV when their immune system is low.

It's also important that you make an appointment with your gynecologist NOW. You will need regualr pap smears and an HPV test. The pap smears will detect any abnormal or precancerous cells on your cervix. The HPV test will tell your doctor (1) if you have a current HPV infection and (2) whether the HPV you have is a "low risk" or "high risk" subtype.

I wish you all the best. Take care of yourself and stay healthy. That's the key to fighting this virus. E-mail me if you need someone to talk to (click on my profile and select "Contant Steffy"). A support system is a wonderful thing to have during a trying time.

The possibility that you got it is very good. HPV is the number one transmitted STD in the world and currently there is no cure for it. Also, it can take months and even years to ever show any symptoms of it.

I have had HPV for 5 years now. I got cervical cancer about a year after getting it, and then about 6 months ago I got genital warts.

For the most part HPV doesn't do anything. There are at least 100 different kind and only a handful cause health problems. It is very important that you see your doctor or OBGYN and get a pap smear done every year. HPV can cause abnormal pap smears. Sometimes it's nothing and something it can be abnormal cells, like pre-cancerous cells. In that case they have to do some procedures to get rid of the cells before they become cancerous.

Don't worry, as long as you are getting your yearly paps and taking care of yourself you should be okay. Cervical cancer does kill 300,000 women a year though, so it is very important that you do this.

There are some good answers there, but truth is according to WHO (World Health Organization), if you have had more than one sex partner in your life you run the risks and the virus can lay dormant for many years before rearing its head. He may have given it to you or you may already have it, you can't be sure. And it ain't the end of the world if you did get it and condoms don't protect you from it. Some warts can't be seen with the naked eye. Some look like innocent little freckles. Have a pap done with the test that can detect HPV.

You have gotten it! Not to scare you, but it doesn't matter if a man has no symptoms, you cannot get rid of it... it is a virus and the warts are only a symptom. When you get a pap done, have them test you for it. It could be a long time before you actually have any symptoms, and the worst types have no symptoms. Good luck. I also hope you are fully aware of what HPV causes, cervical cancer.

Get tested, hpv can thrive in females without showing any signs or symptoms and gone untreated causes cervical cancer. If it's caught early it's relatively harmless, just embarrassing.

There is definitely a possibilty of your having got the infection but there is no need to panic. You can get tested after some time by getting a pap test done.

Have a pap smear. they can tell. tell the GYN doc what happened. He/she will know how much time needs to elapse before it becomes apparent. It can be cured IF you go to the doctor.
