There are usually a lot of items on the menus that are not too trying. Try Cantonese barbequed pork with rice (Char siu), try going for dim sum--order the regular shrimp dumplings (har gow and siu mai), chicken and glutinous rice cooked in lotus leaves (jun ju gai) and fried noodle dishes.
Also, HK is the mecca of all kinds of cuisines. Plenty of Japanese, Thai, Italian restaurants around. There are even TGIFs around.

Hong Kong is a highly cosmopolitan place. While it may be true that most food places here serve Chinese food, there are still a lot of restaurants that serve a whole gamut of international food, like Continental (Denny's / Ruby Tuesdays, etc.), French, Italian, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Filipino, etc. All you have to do is know where to look.
On the Southern China Morning Post, they sometimes have pages showing the different promos of variety of restaurants in Hong Kong. Just from those pages, you'd already see how many different eating places there are here.
Happy eating! :)

There's no way to avoid those foods other than going to places like McDonalds or KFC.
Tips: Put lots and lots of Tabasco sauce or any Chilli sauce to make the food tasty. You'll love it!
