How come you get "grimy" feeling in your mouth when you eat spinach?

Some of the green leavy vegetables (phytochemicals) and other vegetables (like the cabbage family) especially in anticarginogenic plants leave a "grimy", "acid" or "fuzzy" feeling in some people. This is especially true with children and adolescents (thus many children do not like their veggies). This taste for some will go away in adulthood -- but not for all!! I find that putting a little vinegar on spinach eases that problem for me -- cause other than that I love the POPEYE food!!

Because it's dirty. Wash it better next time.
Also, depends on where it was grown, what variety it is, and how fresh it is. I grow some damn tasty Spinach here, and my wife gets chastised if I taste dirt in a salad. If you don't like spinach, try eating beet greens. I like them with a little vinegar.

spinach is grown in sandy soil, the grit gets into it. It is always best to rinse your spinach by putting it in a large pot or the sink with cold water. agitate it good to allow sand to fall to bottom. Pat dry it w/ a tea towel. This will solve your problem.

It is the iron content that gives you that taste in your mouth. Eat it, it is so good for you. Eat it with another food on the fork and you won't taste the iron so much.
