sometimes it drops into a vicious cycle. cough in itself produces more cough if left untreated. in addition to over- the -counter cough medications you'd better to use much water and keep your environment humid. it happens that some anti tussives work better. so you may switch your medication if you feel it does not work. you need to see your doctor and he may follow your case by x-ray or a serologic test to check for some causes of chronic cough. hope you feel better soon
