My nephew is 14 years old. Since I am closed to his age he confided in me. He doesn't want to go to a doctor or show his parents. He has strange marks in the area around his penis that look like rashes. I didn't really know what to think. Are these "rashes" really a herpes outbreak?

Rashes are not a symptom of genital herpes.

Herpes zoster (shingles) do look like rashes and they can appear anywhere on the body, usually the legs, arms, and the side of the body. This is not sexually transmitted, so if he is worried about getting in trouble from his parents he shouldn't be. Shingles is usually transmitted by someone who has chicken pox. So if he was exposed to someone who has chickenpox he could have got it from them.

Genital herpes are blister like sores. They can open and puss a clearish fluid. There can be a few or 10 or more sores in the genital area. They are also VERY painful. Is he in a lot of pain? I was in so much pain that my doctor prescribed me the pain killer Vicodin.

I hope this answered your question.

The symptoms of herpes can vary widely from person to person. When symptoms do appear during a first episode they usually appear within 2 to 10 days after infection and last an average of 2 to 3 weeks. Some of the earliest symptoms can include:

1. An itching or burning sensation.
2. Pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area.
3. Vaginal discharge .
4. A feeling of pressure or fullness in the abdominal area.

A few days following the initial symptoms, sores or lesions erupt at the site of the infection. These sores can occur inside the vagina or on the cervix in women, as well as in the urinary passage in both men and women. Herpes lesions may first appear as small red bumps that develop into blisters which become painful, open sores. After several days these sores become crusted and then heal without scarring.

Signs and symptoms of herpes simplex virus
Primary genital herpes (PGH)
The first attack of herpes genitalis is pretty violent, following which the virus remains dormant within the neuronal cells of the dorsal root ganglion and then gives rise to recurrent lesions but milder in intensity as compared to the primary attack.
Primary genital herpes or PGH infection may have an incubation period of upto a fortnight after exposure to the virus through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner. The manifestations are usually symptoms such as painful, itching, or burning vesicular i.e. fluid filled eruptions which may coalesce and then break open to form circumscribed ulcers. There may be concomitant fever with headache, malaise, lymphadenopathy, and dysuria. Remisssion takes place within a month and the lesions subside.

Recurrent genital herpes (RGH)
In the case of recurrent genital herpes or RGH, constitutional signs and symptoms are seldom seen and the intensity and duration of progress is lesser than the primary attack. The vesicular eruptions are usually preceded by burning or tingling in the affected areas; however, the area involved is again lesser as compared to the primary lesions. On an average, a person can have outbreaks almost every two months but the remission time is about a week. The factors that tend to trigger the relapses are found to be stress, exertion, heat, hormonal fluctuations, other infections which tend to drop the immunity, etc.

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid 1 night stand. I know a lot of girls will say this but I swear I never did that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and, suddenly, it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her "you know what" area? But after a friend shared this video https://tr.im/34jNa everything changed. Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the chance to be happy, and to experience true love again. Now I want to help by sharing this with others.
