Hummus is a middle eastern food. Garbanzo beans, tahini sauce, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Very good used as a dip with Arabic bread, or romaine hearts. A little goes a long way. Fresh is best.

Hummus is mediterranean dip made of ground chick peas (or garbonzos) and tahine (or sesame butter: like peanut butter made with sesames instead of peanuts) and usually some garlic all mixed up in a food processor. Great on pita.
