I am curious to find out if what I hear about microwave radiation is true. I hear that you should not stand near the microwave when it is in use nor should you cook food in microwave without it being covered from fear of exposure. Is this true? How much exposure is necessary in order for it to be threat to your health?

It is true, microwaves emit EMR(electromagnetic) waves that can effect your health just as those when using a cell phone excessively. They said there is research showing prolonged exposure can lead to cancer.

well, although you shouldn't stand near a microwave, doing so wouldn't really do much(cell phones are more dangerous). When cooking food, it's the microwave radiation that allows the water in the food to boil.

I think if you stand in front of the microwave the whole time you are cooking something everytime you cook something maybe... but Im not to sure.
