They come from different breeds of chickens. And they do come out of the same place. There is no difference between white and brown eggs other than the colour.

It's just the way some Chicken's lay their eggs but it's a good question - I wonder too why some are brown & some are white.

Yes, from the butt of a chicken. Mr. Broc and GP have good answers. I used to raise chickens with my friend, he had white chickens and i had black and red/brown ones, He had white eggs and mine where brown. It's the type of chicken that determines the color of the egg just as different bird species have different color and character to their eggs. I am curious if the nurtitional values are identical though. Perhaps good for another separate question.

white chicken egg comes from white chicken which is called english chicken, it is available at cheaper rates, these eggs are hatched with the help of machines and they are low in nutritional value.
brown chicken egg comes from brown or black chicken which is also called desi chicken, it is costly since it is not hatched with the help of machines, they have more nutritional value, and it is tastier as compared to white chicken.
it is said that if a person is sick and if he is given desi chicken eggs and sop he cures much faster

Mr. Broc is correct - NO chemicals / food will change the color of the eggs (the color of the poop, yes -- egg shells NO) - it depends on the breed. My son & his family raise chickens and their egg colors range from bright white, sea green, peach, to dark rust.

White eggs come from white hens, brown eggs come from red hens. Apart from that, there are no differences - in taste, nutrition or otherwise.
