Sushi is definately an aquired taste - If you are anything like me then you will have to start out slow and go with a California Roll or a Kappa (Cucumber) Roll. If you are squeamish about raw foods here are some tips:
These ingredients are usually served as in the brackets:
Abalone (raw)
Ark Shell (raw)
Clam (raw)
Crab (cooked)
Eel (cooked)
Flatfsh (raw)
Mackerel (marinated raw)
Octopus (cooked)
Roe (raw or salted)
Salmon (salted or raw)
Sea Bass (raw)
Sea Bream (raw)
Sea Urchin (raw or salted)
Shrimp or Prawn (cooked)
Squid (raw or cooked)
Tuna (raw)

Try some of these Futomaki (or Maki):
California
Tamangoyaki
Dynamite
Vegetarian
Unagi
Spider Roll
Tempura

There are as many types of sushi as there are american desserts. The fillings are endless. Go to this website and it has a ton of info and a short video thats kinda cool. Don't fall for the myth that sushi is all raw fish. If you go out for sushi and you have a choice of different types, stick with something you like as a filling for starters or ask for the top selling type.

first of all, it's spelled sushi not shushi... two main types: 1) a thing of rice flavored w/ a lil vinegar, with a slice of raw fish on top. salmon is the best. 2) those rolls things... something in the middle, e.g. cucumbers, eggs, raw fish, beef, etc, and then rice and seaweed on the outside.

It's raw fish, and it may sound nasty but you should definitely try it! It's a healthy choice for you, and you can eat it in so many different ways. Sashimi is great, and it just tastes like fish, but be careful...it will only taste great if you eat it at a fresh restaurant!

Sushi tastes great! Fresh fish with Japanese rice, rolled in a seaweed wrapper; high-lighted with a little wasabi, green mustard. There are so many different varieties. One of my favourites features salmon roe; these just burst into a great tasting treat in one's mouth. In terms of sashimi, raw fish - no rice; I like mackerel and off course my favourite yellow-fin tuna.

SUSHI is a taste that for me is hard to love. It tastes like slimy chewy raw fish mixed with grainy, smooth or cold and crunchy veggies. I'm not a fan.

I like maki sushi, which are rice rolls with various things inside the roll, and seaweed on the outside.

They're so yummy - especially the California roll make with crab and avacado.

Sashimi, which is rice and raw fish is okay, but not my favorite.

Sushi tastes like heaven and melts in your mouth. It has a fine texture and a odd smell.
