Yes. If a woman has HIV she can pass it to her child. However, if the woman is taking HIV medication that are keeping her viral load low and she has a C section and does not breastfeed - chances are very LOW for the child to be born with HIV.
I am an HIV positive woman that had a positive child because I did not know I had HIV when I was pregnant and therefore took no precautions. That is why it is very important to be tested when you are pregnant.

Yes, when a baby is born it is getting food, blood, and everything else a baby needs. If the mother is HIV positive then, yes, then chances of being born with HIV are high.

Yes, if the mother had it when the baby is born. There is medication now that is given to a newborn that can stop it. Its called a Cocktail. I guess it does alot to a little body but could save his life. You can slighten the chance if born with a C-section, but the mother may not heal properly due to infection and weakened immune-system. The baby has greater risk if born naturally.
Its kinda a catch 22.

It has been reported on TV news and in magazines that children of IV drug users who contracted HIV can develop the disease in utero. You can probably get REALLY GOOD answers by going to the Journal of American Medical Association website and looking up your question.

Yes if your partner or yourself is infected with the virus at the time of conception than a child is prone to the disease because of the bloodstream. It is very sad and the life line for that child is short.

yes as a matter of fact if one or both of the parents have the virus it can be transmitted to the baby. It is sad since they most likely won't be able to live a full long life.
