Wow, I never noticed the Baltimore or Philadelphia accents. I'll have to look for those.
You can detect an Atlanta accent or a New Orleans accent. The Minnesota accent is fairly easy to detect, too. And, of course, various Southern accents. Most real Southerners can detect which state you're from. Tennessee is quite distinct, as is Alabama. Texas is definitely it's own flavor. There's also a general Western accent. And Maine and Vermont each have their own unique sound.
Really, I think we have lots of distinct accents in the U.S., both regional, and city.

Last time I counted there were 50. Each state has somewhat different ways of speaking that you call accents. Goes along the old expression of how you can tell the difference between a Northern gal and a Southern gal. Northern gal says "You come" and the Southern gal says "Y'all come".

Pittsburgh! Pittsburghese was described in the NYTimes this spring as "the Galapagos Islands of American dialect."
Check out the linked article. It describes the "phonetic road trip" of a journalist who uses The Atlas of North American English as a road map, as he travels from the east coast to the midwest, listening to various accents. It includes audio clips so you can hear each accent as it sounds to natives of each area. Fascinating!
