Thats a neat Idea! What about fruit punch, and other fruity drinks with the umbrellas, and the cool colorful straws, and some veggies with ranch sauce. And Lots of fruit, pinapples, strawberries, colorful and exotic looking, kiwi, etc. Cheese and crackers you can still do! Put colorful swords as the toothpick you know what i mean? And Melons, you can always carve out the melons and use the special scooping spoon to shape out little balls of water melon, or other melons, and you put it back into the shell or whatever that is called, you use the outter layer as a bowl. You know? Um other party idea's I would try searching online, do a search for snack ideas for a luau. Or something along those lines! Good Luck!!! And Have Fun!!! =-]

Nice Tropical flavorful twist on grilled shrimp. Not too difficult to prepare and very tasty. Marinate overnight for best flavor (That is the reason the recipe says 8 hours prep time, meaning overnight)

This is also known as a Pupu platter--basically Hawaiian appetizers. Here are some ideas:
Chocolate covered macadamia nuts.
Roasted cocktail weines with roasted pineapple.
Tropical sushi (the japanese influence in Hawaii brings in sushi and other asian fare)
Skewers of meats
Slices of fresh pineapply or watermelon
Shrimp cocktail
Drinks served in coconuts or pineapple halves
In terms of presentation:
Core out the pineapples and coconuts to serve nuts, dips, etc.
Use lots of fresh orchids and flowers.
Buy a box of the cheap plastic leis and make sure that everyone gets one when they arrive.
Have fun!!!

I recently went to Hawaii. I will say some of their foods are great!
Oh and of course I had to try a little of everything......Ok snack foods.
A lot of the restaurants serve spam rolled over rice and some come with seaweed. well the seaweed was ummmm nasty!!
Little bite sizes. This is great if you like spam.
Also what they had a lot of was fruit bowls-mango, pineapple, and etc.
Oh and something chocolate would be their famous macadamia nuts coated with chocolate. MMMMMM they were good.
I hope you find these helpful...

Try chips and dips(hillshire ranch dip mix is excellent),vegetable platters, and different types of crackers and cheese, fruits from the island and pina coladas, and tropical punch without alcohol,as some elderly can't have alcohol! Also try a taco dip made with 1 lb. low fat hamburger(browned and drained),2- 8 oz.sour cream,2-8oz cheddar cheese,2- 8oz cream cheese,16 oz salsa and layer it all in a big cake pan and bake for 45minutes,serve with cornchips and tortia chips.
