Fourth of July and Memorial Day!

Decorations are plentiful and great. Food is easy plus can add (depending on area of country) lots of different veggies and desserts according to what is selling right now. We have the traditional hot dogs/hamburgers,fried chicken, etc etc. but also have lots of other 'local' favorites - have to be - nothing 'strange' as the kids tend to remind us. Good home country food.

Games can be anything --we usually have the kids come up with a series of games they'd like to play and we also get the adults (what w/their favorite games (OUTDOORS - NO COMPUTERS GAMES) while growing up. We have jacks, marbles, pickup sticks, tables for card games and monopoly (under tress) and everybody's favorite - WATER games. We close part of the street and and we hook up long hoses to some of the homes - kids (and grown ups) get into bathing suits and play all sorts of games -- from slipping and sliding, to eating watermelon and having contests of who can spit the seed the furthest -- touch football - baseball - when it gets too hot, on come the hoses or water balloons-- in front of the houses without the hoses, we give kids lots of those thick pencils to design the street or play 'street' games - or create designs.

We even bring in some sand and buy a cheap small powl. And have a 'sandcastle' building contest. These are fun and creative.

There is something for everyone. We start a dinner time (i.e. lunch for those not from the South) and don't stop until it is dark - we then have our fireworks - with all the precautions necessary. We have these as soon as it gets dark so that if we want we can walk down to the city center to watch the town fireworks and everybody.

Fourth of July and Memorial Day are such fun.

So is Halloween - but a bit different.

We had a party once where everything had to be super cheap. Whoever made the cheapest part of the meal won. I found over ripe pears and some really cheap sweet wine and put them in a crock pot. Was tasty. We had salt cod cakes as a main. Everyone else brought a different course. The food HAD to be good and edible.
We took it another step and everyone had to go out and buy a decent outfit at a 2nd hand shop, again as cheap as we could make it and still look great.
it was a blast

We did this for a Halloween party, but just change the names/menu and it can be adapted for any holiday:

Make sure you tell your guests that it is VERY informal / casual - t-shirts & jeans.

4 course meal - 3 items each course (12 items total) - so you have a preprinted menu which they mark 3-1's, 3-2's, etc. See example below.

The three items that they mark "1" will be brought to them for course one -- when they are done, ALL is removed.

NOW WHAT THEY DO NOT KNOW -- your utensils, napkin, etc are part of the menu -- so if they order their fork, spoon and napkin for the course, that is their food for the course -- they DO NOT get another of any same item - no 2nd fork for example - they will need to eat with their fingers, or try eating peas with the knife that was part of their course. AND of course you DO NOT tell them this until the dinner starts -- wait till you see their faces - it is priceless!! And soooooo much fun.

Therefore, you might have spaghetti, jello, gravy & milk without utensils and/or napkins. They cannot leave the table until all four courses are done and everyone is finished.

Sample menu: (shortened version)

__1___ Maggots (rice)
__2___ Worms (spaghetti)
__3___ Pitchfork (fork)
__1___ Eyeballs (peeled grapes)
__2___ Witch's Brew (punch, etc)
___3__ Shovel (spoon)

1st course: they would get rice & grapes on their plate ONLY. You then remove their plate.

2nd course: plate would have the spaghetti and a cup of punch --NO utensils, napkin, etc.

Course 3: Fork & Spoon, but no food.

The combinations are almost endless

The party can be adapted for any age group (old enough to understand the rules) and I have NEVER given this party that everyone not only participated, but laughed the whole time!!

Good luck and HAVE FUN!!

I think when Britney Spears had her baby shower with a "Moroccan theme" it was really cool. The pictures looked really beautiful and from what I read about it - it was a really cool party. I loved the decorations. It was just something that looked very different and I hinted that I would love a baby shower like that. I gave birth the same week she did. To my surprise, my baby shower was more like a hillbilly party with men drinking beer and way too many people crammed in our tiny yard eating hotdogs with flies all over the place. Very disappointing. Good luck.

Pretty in Pink; It wasnt held at someones house but it could have been. the decor was mostly pink with white flowers. They had a huge cake that was chocolate with pink fondont and white details. The caterer had decided that the food was going to be everyones favorite foods. It was awesome!

I went to a my friend's mexican fiesta party! She prepared tacos, enchiladas, refried beans, spanish rice, nachos, taquitos and everything in between, for drinks, of course margaritas of various flavors! She made lime taquilla jello shots, THEN, after a few drinks & tipsy, we tore up a pinata stuffed with goodies from bath & body works & cosmetics and other fun stuff (she thru in condoms and lube jelly as a joke!) Truly different & fun to attend a theme party-u even get to dress for the occasion!

I had a Hanukkah party where everyone had to come in black tie and furs for a casino and political rat races- I served lots of gold chocolate wrapped coins and champagne

I also had a party for after the wedding and it was Chinese where everyone ate on the floor (didn't have enough chairs) and had party games that alluded to china

Mexican Fiesta had all the mexican food taco bar; tamales, nachos, etc. With the cervecas (beer -Coronas, Sol), daquiris, margaritas; simosas, etc. While mexican music played in the background people did the salsa, meringue, in the backyard. Also had an adult themed pinata. People wore sombreros and leis while women each had a flower in their hair. Lots of fun!!!!
