Hi! My son was diagnosed almost a year ago with type 1 so I understand how you are feeling. There is no cure for diabetes. Yes, God can heal him but all you can do is pray for that and deal with the diabetes until then because it may never happen. God would not have given you this precious little boy to take care of had you not been able to take care of him the way he deserves to be taken care of. My heart goes out to you and I pray that God gives you the peace that he has given me to deal with this. I believe that both of our sons will be better people because of this. More compassionate and sensitive to others with disabilities. If there is anything I can help you with or any questions I can answer or if you just need someone who has been there to vent to please email me at randareed1126@yahoo.com. There is also a message board for parents of children with type 1 on the American Diabetes Association website that has an amazing support system. Any questions you have someone will have the answer. There are so many caring parents on their that have felt all the things we have felt and been through it all! Here is the link to The Place for Parents messageboard http://community.diabetes.org/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&webtag=adaparents

God bless you and your son. You will be in my prayers.

Diabetes is a cronic condition and without some new medical break though he will always need to take insulin, the way he takes it may change though. As he gets older and can care for himself he will be able to get on a pump which will no longer require daily injections. I truly believe within his lifetime we will see dramatic breakthroughs with how Type I is treated and possibly a cure. Whether it be a "mechanical" pancreas or a cure through stem cell research. I hope for your sake you seek a support group to help you cope with what you and your son are going through, I know it must be hard but as his mother I know you can do it and stay strong for him. My husband is also a Type I diabetic and he lives a very healthy and relatively "normal" life - he is on the pump and has to continually take insulin but it doesn't stop him from doing anything. Best of luck to you and your son, my thoughts are with you.

Im sorry to hear about your son.what do you consider normal??? It sounds as if he will always need insulin if he is getting that many injections a day...and if the pancreas just isnt working anymore then I would think his endocrinologist has suggested a transplant or other types of treatments(insulin pump)...you need to speak with his doc's to find a possibly better way to deal with his illness...also your local hospital probably has some education groups and support groups for familes of diabetics contact them also

As of present, there is no cure for juvenile diabetes...at least not any that I have heard of. On the other hand, if, by normal, you are asking can your son live a fairly normal life as long as his diabetes is properly managed, then the answer is a cautious yes.

You will probably need to consult with his doctors frequently to keep them up to date on his condition and they will probably have much advice and instruction for you. You would also be wise to research advances in treatment either on the internet or at your local library. Proper diet, exercise, and medication can do much to control your son's diabetes and minimize its consequences.

Pray to God for him. God will cure him. You just gotta have faith. Go to Church and pray.
