Let me count the ways...

1. Meat costs consumers more in the following ways: use of land for grazing, feed for the cows, depletion of top soil.

2. Most of us couldn't bear killing an animal and eating it, yet when someone else does it and cleans it up, it suddenly seems okay. Making the connection between a living animal and some brown steak on your plate is a huge step beyond denial.

3. Red meat stays in your colon for days. Colon cancer anyone?

4. Go to an animal rights site and watch how chickens are killed for meat. I saw the video months ago and still feel nauseated when I think about it.

5. The corn and grain we feed cows for food would feed thousands of hungry people.

6. With the earth's population explosion, meat is becoming a luxury.

7. Cow dung and its processed product, fertilizer, is a major pollutant, espeically in our oceans, which have growing dead zones where nothing lives.

8. Less saturated fat means a healthier body.

9. The conditions under which cows, lambs and chickens typically live is inhumane.

I am a vegetarian because of my religion and because I believe in vegetarianism. I have been a vegetarian all my life. I have done without meat all my life and never missed it. I do drink milk, but don't eat tuna, chicken or eggs. I am a lacto-vegetarian. I believe in eating food that was not got by killing an animal. I do not like the smell of meat and especially fish.
Why do non-vegetarians have to attack a vegetarian, just because they are not vegetarians? Why the abuse? Vegetarians are not asking you to stop eating your meat...they don't eat meat.
Vegetarians are vegetarians for many reasons -- animal rights, health reasons etc.
Avoiding meat may sound like a bad idea, but most dietary and medical experts agree that a well-planned vegetarian diet can actually be a very healthy way to eat.
Most people think vegetarians eat tuna, chiken and eggs. That is not true. There are different types of vegetarians:
* ovo-vegetarian - eats eggs; no meat
* lacto-ovo vegetarian - eats dairy and egg products; no meat
* lacto-vegetarian - eats dairy products; no eggs or meat
* vegan - eats only food from plant sources
The choice to be a vegetarian is personal. If you have a solid reason to be a vegetarian, go ahead. But, if you have a love for meat, you won't last long as a vegetarian. I don't miss meat or other non-vegetarian stuff, because never had it and never want to.
The long-term health benefits of a vegetarian diet when compared with a non-vegetarian diet are lower prevalence of hypertension (one-third to one-half lower), reduced cholesterol levels, lower rates of cancer (25 to 50% lower), and lower prevalent of obesity, among other benefits.
One study of developmental tests in vegetarian children showed that their mental age was more than a year beyond their chronological age, and their mean IQ scores were well above average.
No matter what others think, I would never want to eat meat, fish, chicken or eggs. I love being a vegetarian.

When I became a vegetarian it was so easy. People think you need meat but you don't. One I became a vegetarian I felt a lot better. Many of my friends were vegetarians and I thought about it for a long time and tried it. My other reason is that I am into punk music and many punk artist are vegetarians and vegans and that in inspired to become vegetarian too. Since i became a vegetarian I ate a lot of healthy food because many food that have no meat in it are low in fat. If you are concern about not getting vitamins eat vitamin pills because that way you can keep healthy. If you miss eating meat try to eat veggie meat that are made from tofu and is 100% vegetatian. There are so many vegetarins goodies out there that you can buy today. good luck and if you need so more inspiration go to www.peta2.com

Just Ask yourself this question?? Do you like the way meat taste?? If you do then don't sweat it. There are no real spiritual reasons not to eat meat. That I've ever heard of? Eating mostly veg tables and the like would be benificial to your health to a point but a lot of vegetarians have to eat a lot of over processed meat substitutes that have alot of questionable things in them. There are many complex proteins in meat your body needs. TRY THIS wrap all your veggies in bacon and deep fry them.

I've been a vegetarian all of my life and have never had to go to a doctor. As a vegetarian you eat healthy foods, you learn that you can substitute any kind of meat with healthier foods. In the long run your body is healthier and you'll have less things to worry about in terms of health. You have to watch to eat a well balanced diet though. Good luck and all the best.

vegitarian is an ancient indian word for bad hunter....
Seriously it is a lifestyle choice, one that does have benifits and drawbacks, there is a lot of good info out there just serch it out, and make your decison. There are studies that have been done on long term veritarians in the 7th day adventists that point to increased longetivity and better health but they still use some animal products
eggs milk and cheese. I don't know of any long term studies done on the strictly vegan types.

You know how you have to kill a dog once it tastes blood? While we don't kill humans, meat eaters are more aggressive than vegans. I did spend some time being vegan, though I'm not anymore. I was more patient as a vegan. I don't know if it was just my biochemistry or if other vegans feel a change in their temperament. Expirement and see.

Just close your eyes and imagine that little baby cow, laying there helplessly chained to the floor, staring at you with those big brown eyes...and they're watering because some fat butcher is coming at him with a cleaver in order to make him into a tender entree of veal at a restraunt for $21.95 per 4 ounces of his tiny, helpless, fragile body...does that help?
