The answer to this question is YES. Its a bacterial infection....while rare...it can be transmitted through public restrooms and such. There's a big scare about if you can contract an STD from bathrooms and yes you can...but only this one i believe. If your private area is exposed...and the bacteria for Gonorrhea is around...then YUP you can get it...say the stuff for Herpes is around...the only way you are getting that...in my personal opinion...is if you start having sex with the toilet seat.

Doctors or other health care workers usually use three laboratory techniques to diagnose gonorrhoea: staining samples directly for the bacterium, detection of bacterial genes or DNA in urine, and growing the bacteria in laboratory cultures. Many doctors prefer to use more than one test to increase the chance of an accurate diagnosis.

The staining test involves placing a smear of the discharge from the penis or the cervix on a slide and staining the smear with a dye. Then the doctor uses a microscope to look for bacteria on the slide. You usually can get the test results while in the office or clinic. This test is quite accurate for men but is not good in women. Only one in two women with gonorrhoea have a positive stain.

More often, doctors use urine or cervical swabs for a new test that detects the genes of the bacteria. These tests are as accurate or more so than culturing the bacteria, and many doctors use them.

The culture test involves placing a sample of the discharge onto a culture plate and incubating it up to 2 days to allow the bacteria to grow. The sensitivity of this test depends on the site from which the sample is taken. Cultures of cervical samples detect infection approximately 90 percent of the time. The doctor also can take a culture to detect gonorrhoea in the THROAT. Culture allows testing for drug-resistant bacteria

long story short, they're called Sexually Ttransmitted Diseases because they are in fact sexually transmitted. ask the doctor about other causes.... i bet they'll be stumped

The bacteria are carried in semen and vaginal fluids and cause a discharge. Symptoms usually appear within 2 to 10 days after sexual contact with an infected partner. For women, the early symptoms of gonorrhea often are mild. A small number of people may be infected for several months without showing symptoms.someone is lieing you have to have sexual contact with an infected person to catch it.....

Men have symptoms more often than women, including

White, yellow, or green pus from the penis with pain
Burning sensations during urination that may be severe
Swollen testicles
Symptoms of rectal infection include discharge, anal itching, and occasional painful bowel movements with fresh blood in the feces. Symptoms typically appear 2 to 5 days after infection but could appear as long as 30 days. When women have symptoms, the first ones may include

Bleeding associated with vaginal intercourse
Painful or burning sensations when urinating
Yellow or bloody vaginal discharge
If you have gonorrhea, all of your sexual partners should get tested and then treated if infected, whether or not they have symptoms.
If you are infected with gonorrhea, your risk of getting HIV infection increases (HIV, human immunodeficiency virus, causes AIDS). Therefore, it is extremely important for you to either prevent yourself from getting gonorrhea or get treated early if you already are infected with it.

Gonorrhea is a curable sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. These bacteria can infect the genital tract, mouth, and rectum of both men and women.

no way to catch it without sexual contact with an infected person ....

I still say it comes from sexual contact, but if you are so sure this is not the answer, than maybe one of them was born with it? Maybe the mother carried and passed it along to one of them? I think that could be a possibilty.

The gonococcus is very fragile organism and does not live outside the body. I have heard all the stories of how people got it, and they were all false. Bathtubs, towels, fingers This last is a remote possibility if the finger went directly from her vagina to his mouth. Oral gonorrhea occurs.

GC is a sexually transmitted disease, there is no other way that I know of that it is transmitted. Get in touch with your local health department STD program immediately and have your self retested. There is such a thing as a false positive test.

Maybe, like you said about the towel. One of them could of picked up someone else's towel in the household used it by mistake and infection creeped in that way if you believe that, that organism survives in air that long. Could someone have used either of their underwears/bathing suit and not told them they were infected. I am really not sure stranger things have happen before. But, i do believe someone is not being Totally honest here!
