Depending on the STD, anywhere from a week to 20 years. Chlamydia and gonnorhea show up within a week but the symptoms may be so small that you will miss it. HPV and herpes take anywhere from 2 months to 10 years to form and in that time you can be spreading it to other partners and not know it. This is called viral shedding. HIV takes anywhere from a few months up to 20 years to develop. In this time period, you can be tested and tested and tested again, but until the STD actually starts to show its symptoms, you won't know it. The tests wont always tell you if you have it.

Depends on the STD. You could wait years, a few hours, or never. Some STDs can be completely asymptomatic and remain that way. It's hard to tell. Just don't take chances!

It is better to get advice from a doctor.
Some STD's don't even show symptoms!!
When I had a concern, I asked when I should test for hvs2, my doctor advised me to give it a month to be sure and then I took a blood test. Doctors can't diagnose what they can't see....Your blood will tell all !
