"Chop suey" can be anything...the name literally means "odds and ends" or "hodgepodge". If you want a more food-related translation, try "leftovers" or "stuff in the fridge that I needed to use up before it goes bad."

Now, I'm sure the ingredients in your chop suey were fresh and all, but with this kind of name, the recipe can be anything.

Cabbage has so much liquid in it that you can steam it in its own juices, as long as you seal the container . . .that's all you're describing here in this business with the microwave. Whatever made this dish delicious had to do with the seasonings they used, which you have not described. Maybe they sprinkled a little soy suce, sesame oil, chicken stock on that cabbage before they steamed it.

What you saw was what the recipe is. You just need to ad the sauce. I suggest you buy it in a Chinesefoodstore. Not soysauce, although that goes in too, there is a special one for mixed vegetables but the Chinese name eluded me just now.

Chop Suey (like all Chinese dishes) is made up to fit whats there. When in China don't expect to get the same dish if you order something like "Dragonboatsoup". It will be different every time.

So except for the cook in that restaurant, there is nobody that can tell you what the recipe is. Next time bring a notepad. :)

Just mix all ingredients together and about 10 minutes in the microwave, depending on your microwave and amount. You may have to precook the shrimp if it was raw.

So, did the the cook have only one "foot"?

For the dish that you described, I recommend using the "high" setting for at least 15 minutes. That's what all real chinese people think of "Chop Suey".

I think you need a Chinese person to help you find what you need in China, and I know a website can provide the service , the service is called "Person to Person" http://www.knowhowing.com/persontoperson.htm , through the service you just like engage a "agent" in China to help you to find what you need in China.

There is no recipe just dont put it in for too long but make sure it gets hot. I would probably put it in for 1:30~2minutes.
